Sending a Credit Card for Travel

Has anyone added their fiancé(e) to one, or more, of their credit cards while still in the Philippines? I am considering doing this so that there are funds available for incidentals and emergencies. I know many companies charge a foreign transaction fee so I will avoid those cards but I have not contacted any of my cards to see if they will mail to the Philippines so if anyone has any input I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Chase and many other have cards that waive any international fees.

I know for a fact Charles Schwabb will send a CC or a Debit card to Philippines, they absorb any ATM anywhere in the world

You don't want the CC company mailing the card to your fiancee (even if they would do that), have it mailed to your home address then take down the info on the card so you can activate it later .. after that send the card by FEDEX, DHL, UPS  but NOT by mail ... PhilPost is a "black hole" when it comes to foreign mail reaching the recipient.

I agree with Hank.  I did this for my now husband.  It’s something to add as evidence of a bona fide relationship later and convenient and saves Western Union fees.  But you’re better off just sending it to your fiancée.

I found out about Philpost the hard way, I mailed documents using the USPS and my fiance had a four hour argument with a Philpost worker and camped out in the local office untill someone would search for the package that had been sitting there for days with no attempt at delivery.

Yes, my Penfed Visa card did not require I provide an SS# for an additional card. Also zero foreign transaction fees.

I have requested Chase bank to send my wife a credit card replacement twice. (One Expired, and one for my own fault of misplacing it but finding it later but the damage was done)

Chase takes down your spouses information and then ships it via UPS in a document envelope. It gets delivered last mile by one of the couriers in the PH. (I forgot which one UPS works with) I was able to track it down until delivery, though it took a few days to update as delivered when it was delivered.

I was scared as well on shipping it, but yea Philpost is horrible.

I did this for Mary.  I added her to my Capital One card.   I had it sent to me and I took it with me to her on a trip.

She had no issue using the card for travel back and forth to Hong Kong.

I also sent her some little christmas presents via FEDEX once and she picked it up at NAIA freight. It was $60/70 for the box but it really brought her happiness.

I always use Johnny Air for shipping. I ship to their NY office, then they ship to the Philippines. Some occasions I just have Amazon ship directly to Johnny Air and they forward it on. Takes about a week to Manila, a few more other cities and provinces. Good rates. Never has an issue.

I keep forgetting about Johnny Air .. and a friend of mine uses them quite often even.     ..

I added my fiance as an authorized user. Brought the card to her. It will also help her build credit. It's a good idea if you have the means.

Won't help her credit if she is just an authorized user, her name isn't on the acct.   She will need a CC acct in her name, or added to your acct .. not as just a user.

it depends on the issuer. Some do report on-time payments and utilization. Here's a quick read about it.
