How long does it take to get my extension after filing I-751?

I am just about to submit my i-751 removal of conditions for my green card that expires end of November. Can I travel before then, once submitting or do I need to wait for my extension letter, and if so, how long does it take to get my extension? I had a family emergency and would like to be able to go back soon.

If you are not planning on coming back before the end of November when you GC expires, DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT YOUR EXTENSION. You would not be let back into the US. Extension letters can take up to 30 - 60 days.

Wait until you have extensions letter.

My wife and I just filed her I-751 on 9/3. I have to go and check, but I think we received her extension letter about a week later.

If you plan to come back to the US BEFORE your green card expires, you're fine. If you plan to come back to the US AFTER the green card expires, you will need both the expired green card and the extension letter to get through CBP. They won't let you in if you miss one of those.
