To begin, my husband is in the Dominican Republic. I traveled there for the third time in the middle of this month to be there for his birthday. I landed there 09/12/2019. The following evening, 09/13/2019, my husband was making me passion fruit juice, (as he knows I love it and had been waiting a long time to have some). He left the house to get sugar and ice and in less than a minute upon leaving, not even a block away, my husband was knocked off his motor bike by Dominican police and military persons for no reason at all. When they told him to get up, he complied, one of 20+ armed men hit him in the back of the head with his rifle. Others joined in and started beating my husband. They threw him on the truck and handcuffed him to the truck bars and as he called out to me they were yanking on his hair and continued beating him. As I was grabbing on to the truck pleaded for them to let my husband go and stop hurting him as he had done nothing wrong, he had been home, one DR police stepped on my hand to try to get me to let go as another grabbed a hold of me from behind and yanked my grip free from the truck and the truck sped of as you could hear the laughs of the armed men. It took them hours to get my husband to the holding office, even though it was only a 10 minute walk away, they filed false charges on him (to try to "ok" their actions), and with much insisting from his family, he was released the following afternoon. He was left with the marks of his beating on his back, arms, neck, and face.

Anyway, so that is my story. I requested an expedite on our I-130 petition yesterday. I fear for my husbands wellbeing. I have been back in the states 4 days now and that's all I think about. The DR is a dangerous place with their corrupt police and military. I want my husband away from there, I want him safe! I don't want to have to continue fearing for his safety.

Question to my long story, (sorry), is this;

What would my approval odds be for the expedite request? Also, timeframe from request date to expedite approval, and expedite approval to petition approval?

Wow, that seems so out of place even for the police and especially military personnel in the DR to do that for no reason. I'm half dominican and go all of the time. You can try an expedition process, unfortunately unless someone there is after his life constantly or any emergency needs. The request will most likely be denied. DR is not a dangerous country outright as obviously there are neighborhoods of towns with higher crime and violence than others but as a whole its a pretty safe place. Sorry that happened and that is something that should be reported to the press or news, because even though the police is pretty corrupt there, they're not known for taking random people and beating them.

It is very common of the police and military personnel there. I see media on it all the time, as my husband and his family share a lot of it. They have marches and protests against the police and military there. They pick and choose random people just by the way they look; the way they dress, wear their hair, tattoos, etc.. It is all over the media there, and all over the country. That night they beat my husband, they were, what the people there call, vacuuming.. Another man layed in the nasty cell they had my husband in who, the same, committed no crime but they beat him and locked him up as well. I guess you need to have inside people to actually know the truth about what is going on there.. It is not as safe as you think it is.

Today I did get an email requesting supporting documents to my expidited request. I have a video a local person who was present recorded as the incident was happening and pictures of the wounds he sustained. I will also be sending in the legal report, if they even documented (my husband is going to look into it tomorrow, as when he was released he never received any sort of papers neither when he went to the municipal office). I will also be getting witness letters from people (there were many) who were there and witnessed it all. I'm trying to gather all that I can to support my case.

Wow I’m sorry to here that. My wife is from DR and im half dominican. When I go visit her I do not stop for anyone while driving. There have been plenty times where I’m driving and they try to step out in front of the car so I can stop. I just drive right around them for those same exact reasons. The police and military there are very corrupt and are just after money.
