Yes, but it's amazing how much common sense gets lost in the hysteria. The article is actually from Feb. 2019. Here's the link. https://quillette.com/2019/02/27/why-renewables-cant-save-the-planet/

Just to make it clear I did not write that but agree with it, obviously much better explained than I ever could. The Bird issue came from some discussion about hunting and could not think how many would be lost due to Guns vs Cats and somebody I know who works with Turbines mentioned how many of the big ones were killed by the blades.

PV and Wind is just obvious without cheap and effective Batteries, yes they can work on a small scale, I helped a friend replace his batteries last year and it was a big chunk of change. He had been telling me how he had no Electricity bill, well that was 8 years of what I pay. I think both PV and Wind have a 20 year or so life expectancy, less for batteries.

You need something to take care of the base, where I am 80 years ago that was Hydro but no way can that do it now.

Many estimates have global oil reserves running out in less than 50 years, so that isn't really a long term option either.

First of all, welcome back.  You were missed.

Are you aware that most trains are powered by electricity?  Which is most often generated by diesel.

   Not for too much longer.

In Colorado many of the steam trains now run on oil rather than coal because of the fire risk, The Big Boy consumes up to 30 gallons per mile.

Which will be changed as the US switches energy source.

I'm good with nuclear. In the long run, I think all roads lead to that. Oil is only going to get costlier from here on out. For those with reservations, it will get easier to accept nuclear as that happens.

Long run, what about 2035 or 2050, I thought this was immediate?

They've never claimed to be climate experts. Do you have an issue with people who are bartenders? Isn't that the whole purpose of the American Dream? To fight your way up?

as long as they serve drinks, no - they should stick to that.

The only issues I have with nuclear is how long they take to build and the potential for disaster due to extreme weather events. Europe was having issues during their heatwaves this summer.  Once water going through the plant reaches a certain temperature they have to be shut down. Another issue is that with increase in droughts there might be less water to be used by the plants.

Coal can never be an option again and I am glad to see that the US is starting to shut some down.

Doesn't look like anyone is worried. You can't even find Youtube video's on how to build a nuclear plant yet.

Exactly, all this outrage but nothing practical, jsut stuff that will not happen or will not make a difference.

They are replacing a section of I70 through Denver, a multi year process, not sure how long it takes to build a Nuclear Power Station, 10 years plus. So assuming we believe the Science it is too late. High Speed Rail, well look at the UK and California.

We will reach an equilibrium one way or another. Might be through population collapse. Billions of people on the planet was probably not a sustainable option in any circumstances.
