Our rule was when running the pump, you stay at the pump.  Annually we would test all of our hose at pressure to see if we had any leaks.  One time we had a 2 1/2 inch hose burst at 75 psi, the pump operator quickly had the pump shut down and with our safety SOPs of everyone staying well back during the testing no one was injured.  It is sad to see a fire pump misused in this manner.  Stupid indeed.

     It was, but the odds are pretty good, I think.

 

      Just to clarify, my previous comment wasn’t directed at anyone here. Just reading comments on some of the articles related to this. Words are just words, I guess, but the anonymity of those comment sections sure seems to bring out the worst in people.
