Lol, it's me who can't handle the fountain pen. He said fountain pens (1) are a bit poncey and (2) remind him of his poncey roommate from school, who was never without one and had a special fountain pen box for his many pens.

And yet another red flag.

It's ok to be poncey if one is worthy of the ponce. :)

Well, if you know the ponce in question, you might not think that. (Reader, I married him.)

(Sorry, I couldn't resist the Jane Eyre quote.)

Yeah I agree. Before I was a truck driver I was a Petroleum Chemist for 16 years and used to do a lot of research so yeah also a scientist and trust me back then before computers one needed great pens and I had pen boxes and a nice pen pocket holder. And to sign official documents I had a special pen for that. Heh. If I had to wear my suit to present my findings or present a proposal I had special pens for that. When I became a regional vice president everyone gave me pen sets as presents so pens are important to me.

It's interesting how much the pen says about the man. Also interesting to me, and I have said this before, how often a pen is chosen as a gift. It's both a symbol of success and gratitude.

Yes! I gave Alex the pen to show him how grateful I am for sticking with me through my very painful divorce, and for waiting to make up my mind about whether we should truly be together. ❤️ I am so grateful for his patience.

There is a reason that most sites and stores that sell gifts have sets of pens as gifts. Hell even as a truck driver I had pens I used to make reports and Zebra's were the best for daily logs. A pen also had to feel good to use in ones hand but of course they need to be able to perform as attended.

Hand feel is of utmost importance. Have you held a Mont Blanc? They come in all sorts of shapes these days, but the classic shape is wonderful and perfectly balanced.

Oh yeah and I had a set that the man I was replacing gave me and it was a great pen set. I kept it at my office at home as it was too expensive to keep at work and get stolen. Best pen I ever owned and the classic ball point was the greatest. The man I replaced was also an old family friend and mentored me. I remember when he had called me in and asked what was my 5 year plan ( that was the big thing back then along with ISO 9000) I told him that I will have his job. He just laughed and said he know I will too. He made sure it happened by giving me the assignments to insure I would but as you know I had to perform them at the level required.

For reals. I buy houses and remodel sometimes and my house I live in now I ripped the walls out and put in new walls  to give my bedroom 260 Sq. ft. by itself. I am thinking about building add on to my house to give myself a huge modern kitchen and adding a bathroom and a mans cave. 500 sq. ft. would give me claustrophobia big time. Where does one even put their tools?

If I had to guess, I'd say the two of us live in 380~390 sq ft.  You peeps with your mansions... SMH

If a man needs a pen to "say something" about him, then he's not really all that much of a man.

I don't even own a pen, unless you count the three I brought home from hotels.  But they are not truly owned, more of a long-term lease option.

I wouldn't say a mansion just able to build as I please.  If I need more room then buy wood and nails and I have tools. 🤠

A pen is considered one of the greatest tools ever invented. Yes a pen is a tool as much as any in my garage. I can tell a lot about a person by the type and how they wield that tool. When people gave me pen sets for my promotion and my former boss handing me his Mont Blanc he had wielded for years showed me that I had earned much respect and made me realize that I needed to stay at a high level to keep this trust and respect they had shown me.

Maybe nowadays people don't understand the concepts of honor and integrity and that is a shame but to flippantly say someone is no man because they wield a pen and cherish one is stunningly ridiculous and shows me a low character assessment that I need to disregard anything they say in the future.

Do as you feel best.  If my comments about pens change your opinion of me, then your opinion is of no consequence to me.

I have used the simplest Skilcraft, USG pens for more than 20 years.  Hasn’t decreased  my honor nor my integrity one Iota. If anything, it has enhanced those attributes.

IMO, it is akin to someone thinking they are superior to another because of the vehicle they drive.

We might give you one, but first we must get past your use of the majestic plural.

Are we denigrating the use of the "editorial 'we'" here, huh man?

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
