Stop the office AC overload: Study shows women are more productive when it’s warmer

So there are three people who work in my business on a day to day basis, and two of us are women. Today the AC is so cold I actually went out and bought myself a sweater so I can make it through the next five hours! My female coworker is wearing fingerless gloves. IT IS 74 DEGREES OUT THERE (my weather app says) and yet it is subarctic in here. Of course our manager, the only man, thinks it's just about perfect inside right now. I can't even.

Anyway, I know this article is about 4 months old but I was thinking about it when I walked out to get the sweater.

Quote

Chang and his co-author, Agne Kajackaite, tested verbal and math skills in tests of college students in Berlin. They found that for every one degree increase in Celsius, the number of math questions answered correctly by women went up by 1.76 percent. Put another way: Even within normal indoor temperature variations — increasing the temperature from the 60s to the 70s in the room — female performance on the math tests increased by 15 percent.

...

What’s not likely to be the explanation, at least in this case, was clothing. Because the test was run in college students, he said, there weren’t the same kind of sartorial differences between male and female participants. Rather than button-down shirts and pants or sleeveless blouses or dresses, both male and female students dressed in relatively similar ways, he said: “They were all coming in in shorts and a T-shirt."

And sort of apropos of nothing, when I searched the site to see if anyone had already posted about this, I found this AMAZING thread that somehow didn't go anywhere in 2012.  Let me if you want to know what it is -- let's just say it isn't necessarily family friendly!!!!

BRUH the struggle is real! I've been working at the same place since 2011 and I have to wear sweaters/long sleeves every day. Thermostat opposite of me shows that its about 73-74 degrees but it feels like its 67-68 degrees.

There are days in the summer when it's 90-ish degrees outside and I'm STILL wearing my Columbia fleece jacket. I wore it on the 4th of July. haha so sad!

The flip side is when it's -30 in the winters I shamelessly wear long john pants under my work pants. I'd rather be cold and add on the layers than be hot and unable to cool off so at least I have SOME control over that.

I love it!!! (I had to look up a banya to confirm my suspicions.)

It's insane to have AC on when it's 74. I admit it is now 83 degrees outside and I was looking at the forecast earlier not the actual temperature outside. Please excuse this blonde moment, brought to you by Layla.

I agree. If your cold put on a sweater.  You cant take off clothes to be cool but you can put them on to be warm

Well for some people the universe revolves around them and all conditions must be set for their comfort with no regards to others.

Well, he's not really my boss. He's my manager, and my friend (he got me the job) and he's also the ONLY person who works here who thinks it's too cold. We have the upper hand in terms of numbers thinking it's too cold. I also think that happy employees mean a happy boss! All of this will be meaningless soon once fall really kicks into gear anyway.

Depends on where you work.:P

Ladies, this is only temporary. Menopause is right around the corner. I guarantee, you will never complain about being cold again. Commenting for a friend.

Seems to be a fact the fairer sex is always too cold or too hot. And then there is the matter of temperature.

There needs to be a "frowny" reaction in addition to the "sad" reaction. The problem, I have found, with men saying things like that often has to do with the man in question, and NOT the woman. A change in approach may regulate "temperature" you know. :)

Actually, here is a 3-step, 100%-energy-saving method of air conditioning, see man:

1.  Take off all your clothes

2.  Blow on a friend

3.  Think clean thoughts

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Women tend to feel cold, and therefore need to be cuddled or more heavily clothed to survive in comfort.

Until such a time as they crawl nekkid under the covers, whereupon they proceed to put off so much body heat as to make their man sweat even if there is a six-inch air gap between them.
