I agree, that question was extreme, an invasion of privacy and IMO not necessary to validate the relationship. It seems if they suspect fraud they don’t have any boundaries. Glad you guys made it.

No such thing as an invasion of privacy when it comes to visas (or immigration in general, when applying for a benefit).

It's not uncommon for them to ask questions like that during that type of interviews. They also ask when you had your period last etc, to see if the answers match. The more personal the better, I guess.

So true....we all end up disclosing so many 'private' features of our lives.....financial, criminal, personal, etc.......

we did our interview for the K1 visa years ago at the embassy in Guayaquil, Ecuador and ever since then I've been curious if our experience was normal.

Read the first 6 or 8 pages of this one to see how we all got hosed:
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/110313-us-consulate-in-guayaquil-ecuador/

Read the entirety of this one, from someone who got hosed even worse than we did:
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/180306-guayaquil-consulate-administrative-process/

Eleven years later and I'm still spittin' mad.

I was composing a mammoth thread about our experiences, with insights from years of probing into it.

He has some definite feelings about his encounters at the embassy there.

This is the understatement of the century.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

This is the understatement of the century.

I'm glad I didn't read these at that time! I would have had mad anxiety. At this point I laugh at all Ecuadorian bureaucracy because this was far from my only ridiculous experience. I'll share....

1. The first should have been a warning as to what I would have in my future. I traveled to the Ecuadorian consulate in Chicago to get my cultural exchange visa for student teaching abroad. This was an 8 hour drive from where I lived, so an overnight adventure. At first I'm impressed because this is right by The Bean in downtown Chicago but the actual consulate is like closet size with about 5 chairs. Anyway, I remember having to go find a copy machine to get some paper copied and waiting, but left with my visa after two hours or so. In the car I'm looking at my shiny new visa stamp as my dad is driving and I realize they've given me a 6 month instead of a 12 month. So we turn around and start driving back. Did I mention their "business hours" are 8:30-2:00pm. LOL So we get back right before they close and I explain what happened thinking "oh , I'm going to have to get a whole new thing and spend another night." NOPE! A guy takes my passport and comes back 10 minutes later with the 6 month stamp scratched out in pen and "12 months" written in with the same pen.

2. After living in Ecuador for nearly 2 years and working there, I'm on a trip back with my fiance for our interview (original post) and I've been told by other people I worked with that they've already received their Ecua tax return. (This was the first time this has happened at the school.) Since it was a sizable amount I wasn't willing to just forget about it. So I go to the school HR office (very affluent private school in Cumbaya), it's summer so no students, not busy, and ask after this check. I'm told that it's in an office back in Quito. So we go to this office and we're told no it's actually in this other office across town. So we cross the city in Quito traffic LOL and get told that no, it's back at the other office. So we go back. Same thing. We spent the day crossing the city to different offices until finally my fiance had enough and starts yelling at some poor woman who finally says she'll track it down. She comes back 20+ minutes later and says "It was sent to the school." We go back to Cumbaya and voila! it was there in someone's desk drawer the whole time.

Anyway, here we are 8 years later and just had a son. We'll have to register his birth at the same Ecuadorian consulate in Chicago. More adventures await!

I never wrote embassy review here as i thought it was embarrassing and i was the only one to go thru the Bulls---t

but now i will say

my husband was asked if we slept together

and then asked if i had any birth marks that would be covered by clothing

he said i had one on my rear

i was then called to a desk and a woman took me to a bathroom and asked me to show the mark to her

It is not a birth mark but a mole

he said he didn't know what to call it

there were other questions like "would we live together in the US"

they had asked him if we planned for children and he said no

so,  i was asked and had to tell them about my  hysterectomy preformed at age 17  when it was discovered my uterus had slid out of place .   I grew up being terribly embarrassed by this and i cried when telling it again.

the whole process including getting the police report was a nightmare

including filing out some document i had never read about on the USCIS site

We were lucky and did get the visa ( i swear it is because they made me cry)  but i want my some of his family to visit and hope they aren't under the same kind of pressure to answer stupid questions
