Hello,

So my now wife and I got married on September 12th. My wife was debating on how she wanted to change her last name (whether it be hyphenating her maiden name and mine or just taking my name), so on our marriage certificate she has her madine name. On the 20th she went to the Social Security Administration to take my last name. She received a document that says the review could take up to 4 weeks, and after that she will be given a new social security card with her new last name.

What we are wondering is which last name should we put for her on the I-485,765,864, etc.? Should we just put her maiden name and attach a copy of the document she got from from the SSA? Any help will be welcome!

You dont need any ID in the married name to apply for AOS in the married name. You need a photocopy of the original or certified Marriage Certificate to apply for AOS

She can use any name(s) that appears on the MC as her new name. They dont have to be attached to her first name in any way on the MC.

One of the actions to facilitate a name change after marriage,  is to actually use the name you have chosen post marriage.

One obvious action is to submit your post marriage application in your post marriage name.

YMMV
