Yep go read the contents that are on everything you bye.... I was amazed just what the put corn syrup in.... take Kelloges Frosted Flakes or Frosties as they are called in the UK... now we all know that they have sugar on them but the US version also has corn syrup added but the Uk version does not...

Just go to the UK forum and read this thread:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=57738

Yes, HFCS is in everything. Bloody awful stuff, it really is.

P.S. And no the HP sauce isn't the same, we had a discussion in the UK forum about that too!

We try and avoid HFCS whenever we can, and it ain't easy I'll tell ya!

Dunno if Canadian HP is the same as British HP, but if you are close to the border you may want to run on up and get some. Derek can't live without it and brings what seems like a whole case home with him everytime we go back to Montreal. We have seen HP sauce here in the States and he swears it's not the same.

Hi could you tell me if the HP sauce in Meijers stores is the same as the stuff in UK

Regards Scotty

I can't tell the difference, to be honest. HFCS only makes things taste better, IMO.

Everytime I buy HP sauce over here it has an import label on the side, over the nutrition/ingredients sign.

Personally I don't think anywhere else makes it except Netherlands now.

There is only 1 HP Sauce. Especially when it was made in the UK.

If you have a Wegman's near you they should have it in the International section.

The Canadian HP is the British HP. When I told my family that the American HP was different I was inundated with it. Relatives brought me some from England and Canada. I am now drowning in brown sauce. Would you like a bottle? LOL

Not the loaves I used to buy! :innocent: There was salt, but salt is needed to activate yeast, but definitely no sugar. I always made sure of that.

I think that when you come back over to the USA you'll be unpleasantly surprised at the bread products here now! ;)

I last had American bread in 2005, I doubt it has changed. I don't eat much bread anyway, never have, so I doubt I'll care. Too much bread makes me hiccup non-stop, a problem that I have here in the UK too. I'm gluten intolerant.

I don't eat a lot of processed foods so I don't think the fact that HFCS is in the food is going to bother me very much. I don't have a sweet tooth. Lucky me!

Actually, since being here I haven't eaten very much chocolate (unless sent to me from the UK). I prefer savoury stuff most of the time now. Although the occasional bar of UK Cadbury's is rather favourable to the old tastebuds! :D

It's pretty easy to avoid HFSC over here -- just don't eat junk, and junk is anything that has HFCS in. I have easily avoided it the whole time I've been here and haven't gone without. Avoid all processed food, grow my own veg, shop at farmers markets and co-ops, and don't eat at crappy restaurants. Simple.

;) Maybe your father was an American (milk man)! Okay probably not but I tell hubby this when he tends to like American things a lil to much. He loves everything he eats and suprisingly has not put on weight but lost it.
