I had heard about it - the phrase "beaten like a red-headed stepchild" comes to mind. But my hair couldn't be red enough when I was younger, so like Nessa I dyed it or used henna.

And while my salt-and-pepper headed guy is the one I love, I always will have a thing for red-heads.

You know come to think of it Derekkj, I've heard that expression too. I never thought anything of it though.

That phrase has at least as much, probably more, to do with stepchildren as it does with redheads per se.

as a redhead..it is true....

red on the head like a ####### on a dog

red on the noodle like a pecker on a poodle...

no wonder i became a therapist

i have NEVER heard that in my entire life!!!

I don't even know what that means

I remember seeing South Park had an episode on "Gingers". Personally, it doesn't bother me at all. There's so many different skin and hair types. Recently, I saw a photo of my friend when he was younger, he was a ringer for Ron Howard! He could've easily walked onto the set of Happy Days and took his place!

True. Lord help you if you are a step-child AND a red-head. You are doomed!

That article is pretty accurate; there is a lot of ginger teasing that goes on in the UK. I've never seen it turn aggressive, but it doesn't surprise me that it would. The UK has a reputation for being a peaceful and polite country that it does not really deserve, and people here can be much more rude and verbally aggressive than Americans, probably because the rest of the British population are so intimidated by it that they don't fight back.

I never knew being ginger was a BAD thing until I came here.
