I know I am jumping hte gun a little here but I have heard that they require a Study visa to be allocated to children on a K4 to be able to go to school.

My daughter is 3 and hoping everything goes well she should receive a K4 visa. Will I need anything else to be able to put her in preschool and later school?

Thanks

Sam

Some schools may ask for is a SSN to register, with the new fee structure set to go into place after July 29, EAD is automatic with AOS application, so K-4 can get a SSN fairly shortly after filling for AOS, using that EAD.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Sam,

All a kid needs to go to the public schools is evidence that the child resides in the school district and a medical report. Be aware that more vaccinations are required for attending school than are required for immigration.

For preschool all that is needed is money to pay the tuition, although any decent preschool will also want to know that the child is healthy.

Would they need the vaccination card recording all vaccinations from birth? My daughter has had all her shots in SA. She is now 3. I think the next one is only at 5 years old...

But I am sure I can get any other medical checks done there... I will be moving to Virgina once this is all approved.

Do preschools take them at any time during the year?

Does anyone know the dates schools start there??? In SA school year starts in January....

Sam,

Each school district is going to set its' own documentation requirements. As an aside, my wife just registered her son for kindergarten and found that the boy needed to have some of his vaccinations repeated - he had been given the vaccinations in her country at 9 months old but the school district requires that the vaccinations be given after the age of 1 year.

You would have to talk to an individual pre-school to find out what its' policies are (same as with public school districts). I would think that most pre-schools would take a new student at any time as long as there is space available.

In most, if not all, of the USA the school year starts anywhere from mid August to early September and ends between the end of May and late June.
