USCIS requests a few checks and waits for the results. The main one is the FBI check. What exactly that includes is a black box. I have them done every 6 month for security clearances for work.

 

Generally yes, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be any other items they have to take such as supervisor review. Many. People are not (edit: usually) approved on the spot nowadays.

Wife was approved on spot and given ceremony date the following week, it shocked the h*ll out of us.
 

Applied in March and citizen in October.
