CR1 - application cover letter

It's me again 😉 Still working on the CR1-application.

I read on the guide here that it's good to include a cover letter. I'm wondering what level of ambition we should put on this letter? We have written the following:

My name is %WIFE NAME%, and I am petitioning for my spouse, %HUSBAND NAME%, to obtain

residency in the United States. We’ve been together since %DATE%, when he was here as

an exchange student at %UNIVERSITY%. Since %DATE%, he has been living in his

native country %COUNTRY%, and since that time we have visited each other in our respective

countries numerous times. We got married on the %DATE% in %CITY%.

I have omitted some details for the sake of privacy.

I feel like it's kinda short, but at the same time, I don't know if it's relevant to put anything more. I also have a relationship timeline in "Evidence of bona fide marriage" part where it clearly shows when we have visited each other, complete with flight tickets, passport stamps, and photos.

Any other good tips of things to include? Since we are living in different countries, there is no joint property, insurance etc. Are some affidavits from friends/relatives needed to validate the marriage?

On a side note, do we need an affidavit of support now? Or does that come into place later?

Reaaaaally trying to avoid an RFE...

Not needed.  If you want to you can give your name and address etc and a list of the documents in your pack   Nothing more needed. It will be filed in the round grey bin

Cover letter is typically nothing more than a table of contents of what is contained in the filing.   Optional.

Affidavit is later

YMMV

Correct.  Note that you are submitting a "petition for alien relative", not a visa application.  You are petitioning for your spouse to be allowed to apply for an immigrant visa.  When your petition is approved, your spouse will apply for a visa.  USCIS doesn't issue visas.
