New Card Is Being Produced

Hi All,

Every morning I've been checking status of my wife's cases (GC and work authorization).

Today I've noticed, that the message has changed for the work authorization case number from Biometrics were submitted to "New Card is Being Produced".

On September 18 2019 we ordered your new card for Receipt Number MSC... and will mail it to the address you gave us.

So what does it mean? She will get work authorization document? Can she work after she gets it?

Thanks

\

(very happy this morning)  :)

Yes, she's allowed to work with that card. She does need a SSN too to be able to work though, not only the work authorization.

She has SSN already.

At least there is some progress in our case :)

The SSN will need to be in the same name as the EAD. Ensure that it is.

So in our case this EAD is completely useless. She has SSN in her maiden name. After our wedding we went to SSN to change the name but they've told us that her I-94 is expired and the only way that she can change it is when we return with GC.

EAD is not a document stating that she's here legally right?

They will change the name to the name on the EAD if you are so inclined

Today we've received letter from USCIS stating that our EAD was approved and that the card will arrive soon.

Validity is stated until September 17 2020.

So now waiting for the final stretch for the GC :)

I got my EAD (combo) card 2days ago and realise that uscis printed a wrong "country of birth" on my card. I already mailed it back to them with necessary document for correction.

Please is there anyone with the idea of how long its going to take for them to correct it and send me back my card?

Thank you.

Will SSA issue her replacement card without "Not Authorized to work" print? I don't want to go and waste another 3 hours for nothing. Do we have to wait for her GC or is Work Authorization card enough to prove that she has new name and is here legally?

When she gets her EAD or combo card (EAD + AP), she can get a Social Security card in her new name, but it will still have the 'valid for work only with DHS Authorization' text. The EAD is the DHS work authorization, so she can work legally with that.

When she gets her green card, she can get a Social Security card that has both her new name and no 'valid for work only with DHS Authorization' text. Depending on your timeline, it might not be worth it to go to the SSA office twice (since Anastasia's combo card arrived ten days before our AOS interview, we didn't bother).

As a K-1 she should never have received a SSC with that text on it in the first place. She should've gotten one that reads "valid for work with DHS authorization only" or something similar to that. That text can be removed once she gets her greencard.

If she did in fact receive a SSC with the wrong restrictions (that says "not valid for work") you can certainly go back to the SSA with the EAD card and have them send her a new SSC with the other text on it.

I've looked at her SSC and it says "Valid for work only with DHS Authorization". So I was wrong.

If she applied for both work authorization (EAD) and travel authorization (AP) at the same time (and you should have along with applying for AOS from a K-1, because it's free and you don't know if an emergency back in your wife's home country that USCIS does not consider sufficient grounds for emergency advance parole will come up) then her work authorization card will have a line on the bottom that says something like 'this also serves as advance parole'. This card is generally called a 'combo card' because it's a combination of a work authorization card and a travel authorization card.

Then everything is as it should be. Once she receives her greencard she can bring it to the SSA and have that text removed as she then won't need any authorization to work anymore.

If she changed her last name when you got married and the EAD is in her new name but the SSC still has her old name, you can go to the SSA with the EAD and have them change her name on the SSC too.
