Americas' Inflation

Would you pay $1.70 for a dozen of large eggs? or $4.98 for a gallon of milk? What about paying $4 for one public inner-city bus ride?

Fine for Alaska residents, but what about in the mid south USA, where the minimum wage is still less than $6/hr?

The US dollar is losing strength in the world and the Canadian dollar is soon to equal its purchase power. We had to fork over for the triple price in gas prices in the past few years, but now those prices are now trickling into our other everyday staples. Prices have raised so much that many restuarants, and even grocery store chains have closed business.

Now Americans have more money than ever before, so now its time to ante up and divide that wealth. Other countries in the world have witnessed super inflation and now they if a few years ago were living like last decade are now living like turn of the 19th century.

Here are a few other things that are going up

Gasoline & Diesel fuel

Fire wood & paper

plastics and metals

grains and sugar

(all commodities)

Taxi, public transport, airplanes, boat ferrys

electricity rates, taxes, tuitions

building materials, and ofcourse immigration filing fees.

You wrote that, OP, right?

Also, I don't really think it's true that Americans have more money than ever, except in real numbers. Certainly not in purchasing power.

I say that because anyone in the position to make money have made it. Look, at housing prices in the past years, but now you may have to sell at discount. Those who are now getting their homes built are how having to pay extra for materials. Stock brokers have made their cash on the bull market which now is cooling. Bill Gates is like 10% richer now than before. Though nevertheless, inflation hit everyone and the working poor percentage wise. e.g. airline first-class tix may not have changed much, but econo-class have doubled. The cost of renting a limo may not have changed much, but the cost of a taxi and bus have.

Everyone on VJ send your money to me. I'll divide it up.

Think globally and act locally.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

In quebec, canada, we already pay around 5$ for a gallon of milk, 3$ for a dozen eggs, and about 4.35$/ga for gas.

On top of that we have 2 taxes, which results in 15% of taxes for everything we buy other than food.

Seriously, I think US is really cheap compare to Canada and I dont see the big deal if all the prices goes up to be about the same. The salaries are about the same too.

 I second that too

Most people should be aware that right now they are lucky to have everything so cheap, so if prices are going up, there is nothing wrong with being like the rest of the world.

Yes but cheap prices do not equate to a better quality of living. Plus you usually get what you pay for.

I might have to pay $2.4 for a 2 liter coke in AUS but at least I will not have to see someone begging for money outside or rummaging through the trash during my shopping trip. Plus the fact that minimum wage earners are just so miserable. I saw it the second I got off the plane in LA the other day. If blue collar workers where paid better the whole country would be a better place. I am sure people see the difference when shopping in sotres that pay their staff well. The whole place is upbeat. Whereas I feel like dying in Walmart..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

The United States made its name for making things of necessity available for all its people. Thats one what made the US so great. And cheap prices + higher wages made it all possible. Look at the BMI of this country (an infomal look at a nations economic distribution based on how long it takes for a minimum wage worker to afford to buy a #1 @ McDonalds + tax) The US is not at the top nowadays, and is likely going to slip from the top ten soon. (But then again if the US goes downhill then so will the world.)

Beggars outside of stores here in US do it not to feed themselves and their family, they do it because they have an addiction either smoking, drinking or just likes to beg for money and attention. Theres more food in the US than we can eat! and lots of it is for free!

True a worker on a Mc Wage can't afford a new CL-550, pay for a deluxe condo downtown, and eat at Red-Lobster every night, but a person with a family on a Mc Wage should be able to afford transportation to work, have some affordable housing and have access to healthy foods.

If infant diapers go to a dollar each, most people won't stop having babies, (many) parents will just look to violence.
