I've been looking at a lot of British and Canadian sources. Time magazine use both terms. It goes back to what we discussed previously. There is nothing inherently offensive about the color itself. I actually discussed it this morning with a coworker/friend who is from Ethiopia. I asked him what he thought (about "black face" paint) and he had no opinion at all at first. He had never heard of it. We move on to why it even mattered, and then into a discussion about the history. In the end, he said he understood but wasn't offended at all personally and didn't really care either way. In fact we moved on to another discussion fairly quickly. He did say there are bigger problems in the world.

On the technical side, Trudeau was dressing up for "Arabian Knights", so perhaps that is where the reference is coming from.

Regardless, it goes back to what I said earlier, if PM Trudeau was of a different political leaning, the reporting would be much different, and the "racist" label would be flying around.  That is my only point, what he did to make his costume more authentic is really a nothingburger in my eyes.

As to what the US media is doing, I don't really know. To reiterate though, calling it "brown face" in the media is probably is worse for him personally in Canada than calling it "black face".

I never heard of brown face.

Looking at his appearance in that photo does not look brown, more sub Saharan.

And anyway we now have the video.

Could be.  What should be more important (positive or negative) to his party (no one votes for the PM directly in Canada), are their policies and accomplishments.

From what I gather lots of other issues, do his party need to dump him to stand any chance.

He does have a MeToo.

Their is an election coming up soon in Canada. We will see. I think most people will be voting based on policies and accomplishments. Or lack thereof.

He has 3 accomplishments so far, wonder how many more?

Yeah, that one never sat well with me. I never bought into the whole "Justin Trudeau is the BEST" narrative out there. I agree with what was said earlier that privileged people often think that they're made out of Teflon, because they've so infrequently had to suffer consequences of bad behavior. (I married a person like this, so I am familiar with the concept.) So after a while, consequences are what happen to little people, not them. It's the whole pride comes before a fall thing. I have less sympathy with Trudeau for his #metoo allegation than I do for this stupidity. He was certainly old enough to understand his behavior was wrong.

He has always been seen a "pretty boy", been relatively wealthy, and he was the son of a former prime minister. Some people would say that the trifecta of teflon. Not me of course. I would hold him accountable for his choices. Some of those choices have been pretty stupid.

He is on now, lots of IP words, Microaggressions, White Supremacy,  and repeating it in French...

Systemic Racism, all good stuff.

CNN commentator has brought up White Nationalism, pretty impressive. Lots of the comments that it was racist when it was done, cultural appropriation, every other word seems to be privilege.

Begs the question, a Progressive I know would not vote for Trump.

Canada's Justin Trudeau cannot say how often he wore blackface

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-49763805

The images are so embarrassing for the prime minister because he has positioned himself as a champion of social justice, inclusivity and diversity.

Trump has his own problems. Between the two, Trump is the one who has been sued for racial discrimination by his countries justice department. Bigger issue there than wearing "black face" if you ask me.

Trudeau's bigger problem is dealing with the shock factor. No one expected this from Trudeau, and he was already on thin ice without this. This could be the finisher.
