Visa Interview Appointment - UNABLE TO ATTEND [LONDON]

Hi All,

Struggling to find any info online - so creating my own thread. Some information like dates will be vague because I am sure they are following my every click :)

My wife (US) and I (UK) have been in the spouse visa CR1/IR1 process since June last year. After being together for years, we got married in Summer 2018, and applied for the visa straight away after weighing up fiancé vs. spouse visas with finance and work opportunity etc etc.

I have finally been sent a London interview date of October XX, 2019. While we are happy to be at this stage, I am actually very unfortunately unable to attend this appointment as I will not be in the UK at this time.

There are no options on the CSRA online portal to re-schedule this appointment, or even let them know I won't be able to make it. I called the embassy helpline on two occasions and spoke to two different people who told me to just miss the appointment and then I'll be able to re-schedule - but this sounds dangerous to my visa and potential future, and something I'd like to avoid at all costs.

Has anyone been through this before? Anyone know any inside scoop on this? I have been terrified of doing something wrong during every step in this process and now I am at risk of failing during the final stretch.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Thank you,

unionmac

Not sure, but have you thought to be in the UK after all for the interview?

I am only out of the UK for 1 week before, and 1 week after the interview. I normally live and work full time in the UK.

Have you seen the information on the London Consulate website?

https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/family-immigration/how-to-apply-2/

When to follow these steps: you should only follow the below step-by-step instructions after NVC has contacted you to notify you of your visa interview date.

Can’t attend the appointment date scheduled for you by NVC? You are first required to register the assigned appointment date through the Visa Appointment Service website. You must then contact us through our contact form in order to cancel the appointment. Please be aware that you will only be able to select a new date after the scheduled interview date has passed.

That link tells you how to register your appointment so you can go cancel it.

Hi there,

I had the exact same situation, but with the Paris embassy. Couldn't change the appointment on their online platform, calling the embassy was not  helpful at all as they were saying I need to contact NVC to change the appointment, and also the same thing as you (miss your appointment and reschedule afterwards).

But I also tried to contact the embassy via e-mail (found a contact address somewhere on internet) and bingo, a lady called me back saying she rescheduled my appointment at a later date.

Then, I struggled changing the appointment on the online platform as they are not linked with the embassy. But after a few emails, got success on this too.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have sent emails to a couple of addresses on the embassy website, and this is the only reply:

Dear ##

What you need to do is just not to attend the appointment scheduled on October ##, 2019. As of the day after (October ##), please access your account on the website usvisa-info.com and send a 'No Show' request to the Embassy through the 'Missed my appointment' option. Your account will be unlocked and you can then reschedule to a more suitable date.

Best Regards,

Hopefully this will not affect me in any way then 😕 still nervous about it!
