It varies depending on the local Social Security Administration office.  But, in general, it can take up to four weeks for the SSN card to arrive.  FYI.

May 2019 - K1 interview scheduled and packet sent to embassy

June 2019 - K1 interview, approved, and moved to USA

August 2019 - Married

September 2019 - AOS/EAD/AP filed

October 2019 - Biometrics Appointment

January 2020 - AOS RFE for birth certificate received and sent back

February 2020 - EAD/AP approved and got the card

October 2020 - EAD/AP renewal filed

November 2020 - EAD/AP renewal approved and got the card - AOS interview date issued

December 2020 - AOS interview, approved, and GC received

September 2022 - ROC filed
June 2024 - Biometrics Reused
July 2024 - Approved (NO INTERVIEW) and GC received.

If you don't have to go through manual verification and your local SSA office understands that K-1 visa holders are eligible for an SSN, you can get one in less than two weeks; my wife did. However, as noted above, it can take longer.

Hello,

 

My SSA timeline might help:

  • July 18th - Arrived on K1
  • July 22nd - Went to SSA office and got a mismatch. They suggested I come back in a week. I declined manual verification. SSA rep agreed as some that went through it takes a long time to get verified.
  • July 29th - Returned to SSA office - still a mismatch. By this time, I already contacted the verification department (888-464-4218) and inquired about mismatch when trying to apply for SSN. They told me what to tell the SSA office if they got a mismatch again and told me I can call them while in SSA if I run into the same problem. I told SSA what the verification h/tline told me--they understood and went through with the process.
  • August 9th - I received my SSN card in the mail. Card says 08/02/2019. Might have been the date the card was generated.
  • August 9th - We got married.
  • August 26th - went to SSA office for name change. Got a mismatch again. By this time, I am not worried about the wait time.
  • September 9th - I received my card with my married name on it. Date on the card says 09/04/2019.

May 9, 2024: Received email from PSA that marriage cert is blurred/eligible--will need 15 more days for reverification

May 22, 2024: Marriage Cert received from PSA (death cert was delivered 2 weeks earlier)

May 23, 2024: Uploaded new files to the CEAC website

May 29, 2024: Documentary Qualified

July 13, 2024: Expedite Request to NVC

July 15, 2024: NVC responded that it will forward the request to the embassy

July 16, 2024: Expedite request rejected by the embassy
