between a parent and a child, yes.

between a husband and a wife, not so much. even after 30 some odd years of a totally trusting marriage, no matter how much in love i think i am with my spouse, if he were to cheat on me that would end in a ny minute, so it wasn't unconditional love. it was conditional on him being faithful to me.

for a parent and a child, as a child i experienced mistrust to the tenth degree, but the love is and always will be there.

I sure hope it does, though I guess we'll never know since its impossible to compare every relationship or put every relationship through every test of its strength... I still voted yes though :)

I believe it exists without being married as well!

I agree. Though I was once in a marriage where it definitely did NOT exist....

I voted NO

I was told once ( when i was much younger) that love is just something you get used to sort of a habbit and habbit is love......so after a while i think we're just used to our spouse and we think it's love.

Love and habbit is sort of contradiction between each other. But I do hope i am wrong :P

Well, there certainly isn't an unconditional love bond between me and my parents, especially not my mother. My parents have never had a 'loving' relationship with me or my brother. Sure, they support us financially, but it has always lacked in the affection department. Both my brother and I avoid my mother, because the less we see of her, the less time she has to find something to attack us about.

As for unconditional love in a relationship... I don't think so. I don't think so even in the case of a 'puppy' as someone mentioned above. My dog used to love people more or less depending on who gave her walks and who gave her treats. The same with my cats. In a marriage relationship, there has to be some conditions... although some people can live with marital infidelity, others can't. I can't, certainly...

Just wanted to say that I voted yes, because the question asked whether unconditional love *can* exist in a relationship, not whether it is common or right.

me too.

I don't think unconditional love is possible for humans, and I think an irrational expectation that we should pursue unconditional love leads to a lot of "but he's only bruised me a little bit."

Unconditional love I believe exists not only between parents and their kids, but some people are able to unconditionally love their SO's, their siblings, other family members, their friends, their dogs, cats, :P etc. It really depends on the person and their hability to love, accept and forgive.

In my case, I know there are only 3 people in my life that I'll love no matter what (for now, when I have kids I know I'll love them unconditionally also), and that's my mom, my dad and my sister. I don't include my brother, not because I don't love him, I do love him, but my sister (that has Down) I know in my heart no matter what I'll always love her. But if my brother did something terrible that would affect me or someone I love I think I'd eventually stop loving him. Same applies to my husband, if he cheated on me, tried to hurt me somehow or someone else I love, I'd eventually stop loving him also. And obviously I don't include any other family members or friends (not because I don't love them, I do love them just not unconditionally). And lastly, I also don't include my cat, if he killed my husband for example I'd certainly stop loving him
