But why me, and how they know ( I  got this number a few months ago, and I didn’t call to any strange numbers, but I called uscis a few weeks ago and send request because I was out normal processing time for my ead . Thank you for your answer, I was a little bit scared,  still waiting my interview, and don’t want any problems

When I have called to talk to the next level tier I had to get a call back. The called from a private number. If you request they look into outside the normal processing times did you leave a number for call back?

It's not true that USCIS never calls. They called me from the local field office (no caller ID) to confirm my oath appointment because I had requested a certain month. But my phone number was on the N-400 application.

No, I didn’t leave my number,  just request online, almost one month ago. And I was wonder, even if they from uscis and this is about my request, how they know about my number, if we put my husbands number in application , I even thought maybe they changed in my application after several calls before from my phone  🤣

They are probably right that it may be a scam.   I don't think they make changes based on the number you called from. I'm with everyone else on this one.

Calling to follow up with a request is one thing for sure. But I think we can all agree that wasn't the case this time. And they certainly wouldn't call a number they don't have record of

Just wanted to clear up with the misconception that USCIS never calls, as erroneously stated by someone earlier in this thread.

I got a call today as well and the Called me by my husband’s last name. I haven’t changed my name on anything yet. I could barely understand her a she had a heavy Asian accent. She said my husband and I qualified for a grant from uscis. I knew it was a scam and just hung up.

For everyone to know:

When in doubt and you think USCIS called you, hang up and call the real USCIS # and ask if they know anything about why anyone call you. Most of the times they don't know anything because it's not shared and it does nothing to the whole database to the USCIS callers because they don't have one to keep track for.

Most importantly, if it's seriously important they will leave you a voice mail. Did they gave you a call back number? Call USCIS to verify that number they left you. I don't think I've seen any case where some kind of look up ID/reference Number is in the system like how cell phone service does it if there is a tracking issue log or so.

Scammers like to do a bit of research to get simple information that will throw you off the bat to make you think it's the real deal but it's not. If they can NOT tell you the info over the phone, you don't need to say it to them at all. The worse case ever that can happen is like a scammer that got the actual mail and use it. But you will find out later down the road if you get the RFE on such package you sent and verify the package you sent (They save a copy of that too!) if you're lucky to get the RFE that included that so that is 1 way of knowing if it got stolen/different package or not. Anyway but the latter,  scammer know how to dig some info but they are doing it the lazy way to get it over the phone easily for those who always fail for it.

No call back number, no voice mail,  nothing . I didn’t understand her at all, because of bad connection and her accent   , just said - sorry, I don’t hear you, and she hung up. I wonder , how they know that my case in uscis, and how they know my number. We bought this phone number after we sent the documents , the husbands number is everywhere, but no one calls him🙄🙄🙄

I'll go into deeper idea of thought of what could be the possibility.

2 things though. One thing is that you never told anyone, friend or family, about the whole immigration process/progress you're doing. This is clearly the scammer's investigation finding you a target. So how did they found out? Mail snooping? Paying a 3rd party to send these info like if the US Mailer person who gave out the info? Did the USCIS get hacked in some way that the scammer got the name and phone numbers? This goes a long way that it can be pretty hard to be traced back if done right.

The other things is that you did tell your friend and family. Either they didn't know and accidentally leaked some info through a snooping 3rd party or someone carefully listening... or worse case that they did gave a bit of info out without knowing or they did.

It's likely the first thing that seem to be doing the work than the 2nd. So don't always overthink it because there are million of ways of how it fall into the wrong hand and it's not worth dealing with it as in we don't have enough info to report to the police. I often avoid answering the phone because my phone does not enable recording on all call (I do conference calls too for example because if a scammer happen to be on the call, I'm on a group call so I have witnesses!) so I just let it slide to voice mail if anything is important. If it is important, they will tell you and if it found to be a scam, that's 1 piece of evidence. There is always more steps to be proactive against these things but it's a lot of work, who wanna do that for free?

So yeah, there is anything. Just ignore it and pay attention to your mailbox/informed delivery. This is where the most important stuff come from.

Need help. I don’t know what it was, an hour ago no caller ID called me , they told me on the phone they from uscis and said something , but I didn’t hear anything and then they hung up. What happened?

I received calls from USCIS before only because we have a complaint pending with them. When USCIS call, they give an agent id and it is not an unknown caller.

We get these by the hundreds a month

don't answer an unknown caller

if it says a US # still can be out of the country (or in) scammer

don't give out any information / NONE at all

it is a computer generated call done to try to get info on you to steal your ID and / or money

and in the future,  IRS does not call either

and don't believe the ones who say there is an arrest warrant out on you (police don't call,  they show up at the door if you are in trouble)/  they don't call
