One of my relatives (parent of a relative, petitioned under the IR5 category) recently got approved and has their interview scheduled.  The NVC interview page states that original documents are needed.  A few questions:

1. Is the original affidavit of support required, or is a photocopy sufficient?

2. Can social security numbers be blacked out?

3 It says birth certificates of all children are needed - does that mean that the petitioner needs to send their birth certificate abroad to the beneficiary, or does this only apply in cases involving derivatives?

Yes, you need to bring original docs and their copies, they will keep copies and return originals.

Would the petitioner's birth certificate be needed for a parent (IR5) case?

Also, can social security numbers be blacked out?

No.. you can not blackout the numbers. That is what they want to see and you are dealing with the US government, they already know the numbers anyway. Bring everything they say as they say and more if possible.

The original documents needed are the original of all documents submitted during the NVC stage. Apart from the AOS , they apply to the beneficiary documents not petitioner.

Most Consulates accept a copy of the 864 and do not require the “wet signature” of the signed copy.

Are both affidavits of support required (I-864 and family member's I-864A), or just the I-864?

Thanks!

Question - it appears that one original document has been misplaced (original translation) - is this a dealbreaker?
