Hello all. Haven't posted in a while. I hope we're still welcome.

My wife arrived on May 11, 2007 at LAX (POE) on a K-1 visa. We applied for her SSN on May 24, 2007. We got married on June 1, 2007. Now she's getting bored just being alone all day. She's eager to start working. She didn't get the stamp to work on her I-94. But we're confused as to which forms to file in order for her to start working. We know the I-765 is the application for the Work Permit, but my wife has asked some of her friends about their experience and they told her that all she has to do is just wait for the I-485 is approved.

If its true that she can work once the I-485 is approved, then what's the use in filing the I-765 and paying the extra fee?

Can someone explain this to us and give us an idea of what we should do?

Thanks,

AJ & Jacque

AOS: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3aos

EAD (I-765) http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...mp;page=k1k3ead

Yes, can work if I-485 is approved and have an I-551 stamp in passport, the stamp makes passport a temp green-card, and can work with the green-card.

Sometimes it can take months to years to get AOS approved, EAD is an interim benefit that you may need. After July 30 if you file for AOS the new fee includes EAD and AP.

You can file and send both in the same time for extra fee, and they will process both. I-864 is for Adjustment of status, I-765 is for work permit. Usually you get EAD sooner then AOS. But we filed only AOS.

About your wife - I know very well how she feels. I was cranky and crazy, getting lost around and being lost in people. Ahh. From active and energetic life to loneliness and slowly loosing mind.

Now I go volunteer, I go to dance classes, I go to ESL English classes, I go to community college summer classes. Now I am able to get around and find my way, and i go shopping by myself, and in summer there is much work in his mums house, so i will take this chance too. Now i already made my own friends, not beeing always my husbands "apendix", people start to invite me. And of course, spending a lot of time in VJ. It takes time and you have to be very creative and patient keeping her busy.
