WHAT THE FK??????????????????

trailmix, that's a sh1tload of money. Why not do the UPack??? It's as fun as doing the mambo, I tell you

The MAMBO!! woot woot!!

Yeah, we are going to go with upack, just thought we should get a few estimates to see what the difference is - upack is $2200, plus we will hire someone to pack it.

I'm hoping I'll receive an answer for this, if not...I'll be making a post!! LOL

I want to be able to ship some things down before I move. I have just gotten my passport back with the visa in it, and was thinking about Fed Ex. ( I live in a small town) Is just a copy of the visa ok? I understand I won't have an I-94 until I cross the border. I really don't have to much, just a few medium size boxes, and I'm going to ask Fed Ex about sizes and weight restrictions.

I'd really like to start shipping things down right away, even though I won't be moving until the middle of August. I'm wondering if that's ok too.

Thanks for anyone who finds this....

A few things in a box or two as gifts to AATim perhaps but really you can't ship anything until your visa is processed. I have to fax back a cipy of my newly stamped visa tomorrow so my relo cube from ABF U-Pack can be send off on the 30th.

You can't have your personal belongings cross before you do. Any company you use, will need a copy of your passport and a copy of your I-94. They will help you complete a 3299 form for 'items to follow/not accompanying you'. The two ways you can bring stuff over, is either with you, when you cross, or after you have crossed.

I'm sure people have tried, even with success...but it's not the proper/legal way to do it....

Good luck :) and if it's not much stuff...maybe it can wait?

i'm still waiting for my stuff and I crossed a month ago! lol! it's coming this week! I had quite a bit...about 3000lbs.... I used AJ Campbell, who is associated with Atlas Van Lines :)

Thanks...I was really afraid of that! I guess then I'll have everything ready to go, and maybe someone here can send them. I'll mail back what ever documents they need. I really don't think I'll warrant an actual moving company. It's quite possible, I'll just be leaving more behind than I'd like. Kinda frustrating though, as there is no way I can fit all my clothes and shoes, etc. into one suitcase!

I scanned and emailed my I-94 and passport. As long as it's a good printer they should print off well.

Maybe you can find a cheap mover? They usually consolidate your shipment with others. Most co's charge anywhere from .50 to $1 per lb. I had just over 3000lbs and paid $2000. But that was for a home pick up, inventory and door to door drop off. It made sense for me cause to replace all that furniture it would cost way more. I also had about 35 boxes of stuff.

Thanks for the great info. I really don't know how many boxes I'll have yet. I'm hoping to keep it down to quite low. I'm taking mainly some personal items, no furniture at all, and my clothes. I might just pay the extra and take two large suitcases with me. I do have some larger pictures that hang on the wall. I'll have to see what I can do about those.

I read that if I get a notarized letter giving a relative authorization to ship my belongings, I may just send my sister all my documents, and have her ship them. I'm wondering then if it's ok to go with Fed Ex, or regular mail. Or do I have to go with an actual shipping company?

Has anyone had any recent experiences ? Would love to know!

Well, I just got my NOA2 December 31 and having done research, It looks like I'll be using Upack and one of their relocubes. Unfortunately I have to drive to Surrey, BC with my stuff (I'm in Abbotsford) and load it there. I think I'm only going to need one so I've booked a date of March 29. I was quoted $1616 and this is moving from Surrey, BC to Waldorf, MD. The guy on the phone was really really nice and helpful and they sent me instructions via e-mail after I booked. You don't have to put any money down, just give them your CC number and they charge your card after your items have left. I can also change the date if needed at no charge and cancel up to a week before the date with no charge.
