What are other companies that you considered, spark? What are the other reputable ones that do cross-country moves?

One tip though: don't pay the whole fee upfront. If you do, you have absolutely no leverage if something does happen.

Many reputable companies won't work with you unless you've paid the whole amount first. I believe we paid 10% when we booked them and the rest when they picked up the furniture.

Did you not use a credit card? Did your credit card company not go after them for you?

When I was looking into hiring companies, not paying the whole fee upfront was a tip that I had seen on many websites offering advice about hiring movers. I spoke to several well-known companies and initially they said that you had to pay the whole fee, but after some negotiating, were willing to accept 10 % when I booked them, the remainder of the half upfront and half on delivery. I just chose the wrong company out of the ones I spoke to!!!

And yes, I did put this on a CC. My CC company said that because they weren't refusing to deliver (they kept offering excuses), they could not help.

Check out uship.com. You put your move online and people or companies bid on it. You don't accept a bid unless you want to. There are feedback scores like ebay so you can pick people based on feedback. I used uship and was very happy.

I used this guy. Nicest guy ever. Lots of communication.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
