Hi Everyone!

We are filling out N-400 for my husband through marriage.  We have been married three years, and are within the 90 day period for applying.

When we go to fill out the “Travel Outside of US” section, my husband is having overlapping dates because it asks for five years.  His dates are below:

-left US (graduated and went back home) 2/4/2015, arrived back (K1) 7/16/16

-Travelled to Turkey from home country 5/1/2015, returned to home country 5/12/15

-Travelled to Turkey from home country 8/27/15, returned from home country 9/8/15

-Travelled from US to Iraq 6/12/18, returned to US 6/25/18

-Travelled from US to Iraq 6/6/19, returned to US 6/23/19

My first question is when it states overlapping dates is this going to be a problem?

My second question is it is telling us he has so many days outside of the country in the past five years, but will they be only looking at the dates in the past three years since that’s the requirement through marriage?

Thank you!

If I remember correctly, if you are filling out the application based on 3 year marriage, you only need to show the travels since you husband got to the states and married you.

Also, is Iraq his home country? Just curious, since I heard that US advise it’s citizens not to travel there

Hello!

We thought it would only ask for 3 years, but it specifically asks for 5.

And yes, Iraq is his home country.

Thank you for responding!

It asks for 5, because the form n400 is the same fore both people filing out under 5 year rule and under 3 year rule. If I were you i would fill it out for 5 years, it’s not going to change anything.
