Hi Guys Just wanted to know If a petitioner becomes a US citizen with a pending case of F2B family based immigration of Unmarried sons and daughter. Does the amount of time will get shorten if the petitioner update the immigration of the status of becoming a US Citizen. Does it need to re-filing? Our PD is Nov 2010. Thank You

The petition will be upgraded to an F1 preference category. This may or may not improve petition processing timeline (if it's not already approved), but usually results in a visa being issued sooner. See the visa bulletin for F2B vs F1: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin.html.

No need to refile anything.

 

I'm assuming the primary beneficiary falls under Mexico or the Philippines, since F2B would be current for you (for a few years now...) for the other regions.

I believe you can retain F2B category as well, but you must request to do so.
