And is it still "business as usual" at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport? Just wondering if some folks would depart from there, trying to avoid the turmoil.

I don't know. There are very limited flights from Guangzhou to the United States, so it wasn't really an option I even considered.

HK has so many more flights to choose from, on so many more airlines, and the quality of the airlines is far and above better than the mainland Chinese carriers. 

Also, just based on where I am geographically, Hong Kong is closer than Baiyun. 

I'm not worried about the protestors. As long as we don't go looking for trouble, trouble won't come looking for us.
