Well, I'm not the one who said "ex"!

If I do, it's just that we had a particularly difficult relationship, one in which I was so used to deferring to whatever he said, and using his opinion as the yardstick by which I measured just about everything. He was, as they say, my Alpha and Omega. I forgot my own voice and my own words and thoughts and feelings -- I'm in the process even now of regaining them. So when your life is full up with one person, and his thoughts and wishes and desires, for so very long, it is hard to unlearn the habit of thinking what would he do, or say, or want in any given situation.  It doesn't help that he interferes in my life and my fiance's life. He's mad at us both. I can honestly say that a love triangle is not a good place to find oneself in, even if one member has been shut out. 😕

Read a book called Co-Dependent No More ... It may help.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.  - Dr. Seuss

The fact that "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex." somehow is proving to be  controversial to ratify by majority of states for the last 50 years or so, speaks for itself. It is pretty much right up there with slaves only counting as 0.6 of a person.

Alpha and Omega

This is all Greek to us.

English-only outside the regional forums... uh, er, wait...

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

So which rights of women have been subjugated the past 50 years or so?

That doesn't actually matter. Maybe if all sexes were treated equally since USA inception date, you could argue there is no need for such amendment, but they weren't. You do not build a house on a swampland, and just shrug off "Well it stood for last 10 years ok, no need to worry"  Instead you have Jefferson saying things like "were our state a pure democracy, in which all its inhabitants should meet together to transact all their business, there would yet be excluded from their deliberations 1. infants, until arrived at years of discretion. 2. women; who, to prevent deprivation of morals, and ambiguity of issue, could not mix promiscuously in the public meetings of men. 3. slaves, from whom the unfortunate state of things with us takes away the rights of will and of property. "

ERA is there to codify that that legally all sex should have legal rights, if for no reason to prevent from someone coming along and "abriding" them in the future.

But... it does actually matter.  We could talk about how unfair the Boston Tea Party is.  Or how terrible slavery in Barbados used to be.  Or what George Washington did for the rights of women.  What you're referring to is old news.  I could understand if women were still lagging in their rights behind men, but it's clear they are not.
