It was raised to 21 here in CA as of 2016. I agree it won't stop some kids from smoking, but it will make it harder.

I just sent that Harvard article to my fiance, thanks yuna. :) I'm sure he'll latch onto this part though:

I am fully supportive of using e-cigarettes as a way to quit. Unfortunately that's not how they are being used. They are being used to keep people using and they are being used to get people hooked in the first place.

I did date a girl who smoked years ago. I can't even be around anyone who smokes now. Might be age, but the second hand smoke really bothers my lungs nowadays a lot more than it used to. Fortunately don't run into it near as much now either.

Agreed. It's very high on my list as a disqualifying factor in a man. But I suppose as they say love is blind in some cases...?

Back in college I had a dorm roommate that was a smoker, and it did not bother me when he smoked in the room (he was somewhat courteous smoking near the window), now, no way.  A few years ago I was on a business trip in Kingman AZ and the room at the Hampton apparently had a recent smoker staying there and I had to move.

When my father in law was visiting, he ended up using his smoking time to go for a walk, because no matter where he was smoking outside the house, I would always smell the cigarette later and mention it. Sometimes he would swear it was hours ago and he didn't believe I could actually smell it. I figured at that point if he was going to smoke anyway, at least my needling him was responsible for getting him some exercise, so not a bad trade off.

I make him walk out in the garden when he's staying with me, even when he's vaping. I can't stand being around it, even though I used to smoke. Maybe BECAUSE I used to smoke. He does smoke less now, and he's not vaping constantly like I see some of these kids. I am really sick of it though and it's SUCH a waste of money, both in cigarette and vaping form.

I'm not going to dump him because of it, but at this point I'm in too deep, I guess.

Until you say "I Do" you can always exit.  And even after that albeit with more hassle as you well know.

Well it's working then, so that's not so bad. With anything detrimental to health, it' helps to look at the long term picture. Cold turkey often doesn't work. Neither does pushing someone to give up something they are not ready to do. Accepting it's a bad habit, but focusing on the positive (that he is doing less of it) is a good approach.

Not always, but like they say, you have to be able to change what you can't accept and accept what you can't change, and know the difference between the 2.

Thank you, Steele. Some people on here (*cough* Boris/ALFKAD/Bill *cough*) appear to think I should leave him for this (amongst other supposed sins ).

Nope, I have no business in that decision, I only pointed out that one is never in too far.  Other than that, any decision belongs to you and him.

I think it's important that each of us to decide what the deal breakers are for ourselves. It's not something where generic advice ever works. For some people smoking is a deal breaker, and for others it isn't. The only thing I really worry about is accepting something and thinking or hoping it can be changed later. That is a setting up a bad situation all around.

People in love do not say this.

The head rotating 360 degrees and projectile vomiting green slime, was a deal breaker for me
