Do not pass go, do not collect…$240?

The iconic Monopoly board game is getting a feminist update for 2019.

Hasbro’s newest version of the game, dubbed “Ms. Monopoly,” will pay female players more than males – in a stunt that draws attention to the gender pay gap in America.

In Ms. Monopoly, women will receive $240 when they pass “go,” whereas men will only receive the usual $200. Additionally, women will receive $1,900 at the beginning of the game instead of $1,500, according to USA Today.

On the game box, the classic Rich Uncle Pennybags character is replaced by his “niece” Ms. Monopoly, ready to break the glass ceiling with her gray blazer and cup of coffee.

At the bottom, the slogan reads, “The first game where women make more than men.”

Well, considering the multiplicity of versions of Monopoly out there (there are Bratz dolls and Fond-du-Lac, Wisconsin versions, as well as KISSopoly, should you want them), who really cares. Go buy, or not.

Most of the other versions do not come with a political agenda, so there is a difference.  As to the classic form of the game, to my knowledge all were treated as equal, so I guess now we need a version that promotes inequality.  That is sad really, but as you said, we certainly have a choice to buy it or not...at least for now.
