"Female" isn't a noun when it comes to humans, unless you're a cop. We are women or girls, thanks.

I used the term girls speaking about a group of women was corrected by my women boss corrected it to ladies and was offered the benefit of diversity training at HR, girls was demeaning, ladies was presumptive, glad I am close to retirement I am over the sensitivity

This could not possibly have happened. According to laylalex there is no such thing as toxic femininity.

Thank you. I was literally about to post something very similar but I'm posting from my phone.

She said it was grammatically correct to use either, however, SHE preferred female qualifier, another pic grammar nazi

It's not hard. If we are adults, we are women. If we are children, we are girls. I don't take offense personally to being called a lady, but "woman" is always correct. 🙂

Let Boris clear it up for you: that was an opinion piece, not an absolute grammar rule. Between some random internet blog and classic English writers, I'll stick with Ms. Austen and Ms. Brontë.

Same women boss called her team "my Boys", same one that called me out and sent me to HR, can you not agree it's hypocritical?

It is grammatically correct I guess to use either but it reduces us to our biology.

I thought this thread was supposed to be about men and masculinity???

You introduced the grammar content, the derailment is yours, you can't complain when you are then shown as wrong

And woman, girl, and lady do not?

You might be right @Randyandyuni... it might be time to retire if we can't even rely on the timelessness of the English language anymore.

That is hypocritical, 100%.

If I ask you nicely to call me a woman though, why wouldn't you? Am I not a woman, and is that somehow revolutionary?

I am just asking nicely now to be referred to as a woman. And to comment that other women prefer to be addressed the same way. Do people go around saying, males do this or that frequently? No. They are men or boys.

Now you're just being pedantic.

Yes, of course. If I am directly addressing you, if that is your preference, then it would be the polite course of action. But do not expect me to adhere to this if I am speaking of the fairer sex in general. Because perhaps you want to be a woman, and another wants to be a lady. It's an impossible choice that I will not be forced into.

Pedantry is the last bastion of normalized conversation. Otherwise words cease to matter.

I said I don't mind being called a lady. Please don't put words in my mouth. And "fairer sex"? I know you're only around my age.

Can we get back to topic? Maybe Boris can tell us the challenges he has faced with being a man in a society that favors... females. 😎
