Health Insurance

Hey guys.... I'm starting to think about health insurance for when I get in the US and I'd like to know if you know of a good one. I'd like it to include maternity stuff too..... that's one of the main reasons why I'm thinking about it.

I've had health insurance here in Brazil since I was born and I'm so used to the idea I can just go to the doctor anytime I want and not pay anything until the end of the month when the bill comes (the price doesn't change..... don't matter how many times I see a doctor or what kind of doctor it is).

So any help would be appreciated!

does your fiance have health insurance? more often than not you added to your spouse's policy, of course paying a bit more.

He doesn't.... we'll be getting one for both of us.

In AMerica, the sicker you get the more it costs. Be sure to get the insurance before you get pregnant. :-) Not that pregnacy is a sickness.. But I bet its a pre existing condition not covered.

You're right....... I won't get pregnant (at least we don't plan to) before this health insurance thing is taken care of and before we're settled. Thanks for the advice!

lots of private health ins cos will not cover pregnancy without a HUGE monthly premium...

We are looking into health insurance as well. Being spoiled in Canada and coming over here has definitely been an adjustment. A lady Keith works with who just lost her baby had no insurance and was in the hospital for two days and her hospital bill was $20,000!!! I nearly hit the ceiling!

Not too sure, but my husband was looking at a website to compare prices of different places. When he gets home from work I could ask him the website or maybe someone else knows what I am talking about.

Normal cost depends on age and health. My realtor, who has a heart murmor is paying 1100 a month at 42 years of age. Nice :-)

Dave and I don't really need health insurance since we almost never go to the doctor (and I'll always have health insurance here in Brazil too btw).... so it's cheaper just paying for each visit. I'll only get one once we decide on having a baby, before getting pregnant.

A friend of mine had his appendix removed and the bill came to $25,000. He luckily had insurance. He never went to the doctor either.

Not with all insurances. I'm 6 months pregnant and my hubby's insurance just started thru his work. They DO NOT consider pregnancy a pre-existing condition and will cover it fully.

as far as how much... we have it thru my hubby's employer. THEY pay 90% of the cost of the premiums. Our share is still $250 per month. This is for vision, medical, and dental combined (with the medical being the highest $100 every 2 weeks). Good insurance is expensive guys!
