I feel the same way but at the same time I am pro 2nd amendment.  I have never had the urge to carry a gun while going to the supermarket.  I do believe in assault rifle bans but not bans on everything.  I have lived in two countries (Brazil and Mexico) where there is a complete 100% ban on any kind of weapon and it sucked because of all the break-ins and assaults in those two countries.  You couldn't protect your family from house invasions which is morally wrong.  But at the same time I don't need a weapon of war that can spit out 100 rounds in a minute just to subdue an assailant.  All you need is a handgun or hunting style shot gun to protect yourself from home invasion.

the problem is, what is an assault rifle?  for some, it's anything that is semi auto and black.
for others, it is a selective fire (semi or auto, or semi or 3 round burst) fire.  good luck getting one of these.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

My hunting rifle is quite similar to what would have carried in WW1 and WW2 by a British squaddie and the .303 Lee Enfield  I learned to shoot with at School. So a weapon of war?

Anything that can mow down large groups of people in seconds is an assault rifle......

That sounds like a ToC issue.

And I thought we lived in an era of equality.

How about MA legal 10 round magazines and practice reloading like this guy? He only fires 2 shots since the reload is what is being emphasized, but you get the idea. Is this an assault weapon?
