If it was about freedom of speech would it be deeper to you? Certain  parts of the Constitution are more important to you than others, but it’s the whole ball of wax, we can’t pick and chose.

Maybe I value that more (really depends on the specifics). But if it's a private entity asking people to do or not do something, then my thoughts would be the same.

Yes, certain parts of the Constitution are more important to me than others. Not every part of it needs to be equal. I can pick and choose what I find important in it and parts that are less important. The voting process for the VP, for example, is extremely unimportant to me.

They are all important. Not just the ones you like

Having taken two semesters of Con Law, I can tell you that some of the amendments are worth more than others, even if they are all important. I know the 2A is fetishized, but there were literally three cases we read on it, and our textbook was pretty much the leading text for law schools on Con Law. It really isn't as much of a big deal as oh, say, the 4th. Or the 5th. You take those two away and you would feel it, um, pretty much immediately. If you want to get really het up about the erosion of protection provided by an amendment, the 4th's your biggie.

You've mentioned this several times.  I notice every time, you choose to ignore the 2nd.  Interesting.

Well, it just isn't that big on MY list. That's not to say it isn't important -- duh, it's a Constitutional amendment -- but not everything is equally important when it comes to amendments. I mean, the 27th, dude, not a biggie. I have preferences, you have preferences, We can disagree on what's in the top ranking. Do I think the 2nd is as important as the 4th? No. Do I think it's more important than, say, the 27th or the 20th or the 11th? Yep.

Good question. I haven’t decided who I plan to vote for yet unlike some people who just vote party lines. ;)

How have you been? I hope all is well with you. Gary disappeared a long time ago. I hope he is ok.

Busy mostly -- they make me do a lot of law stuff now that I passed the bar. :crying: But good. Working on learning Welsh and the bass guitar because I don't know what to do now that law school is over. I suck at both of these enterprises but I keep trying. My non-fiance was in a bad auto accident last year, he's been recuperating since then. An on duty Uber driver hit him on the 405 -- my boy was riding his motorcycle at 30mph in the carpool lane, the driver crossed over the double yellow at 65mph, right into him. It's been a very real year, what with his injuries, then getting laid off, me finishing law school, passing the bar, etc. A lot but we're hanging in there -- celebrated 8 years together in June, ridiculously happy in spite of everything. I am just glad he has an excellent attorney (i.e., not me) to handle his case. A seven figure settlement or verdict is very much possible for him. I am hoping to lock him down before that happens. Kidding, PI settlements are separate property under California family law, so he is safe from my grasping CABA hands.

Hope things are good in the land of spooks!

Wow, sorry to hear about the accident. I hope he makes a full recovery. Congrats on passing the bar! It was a lot of hard work, glad you hung in there and saw it through.

That's horrible, the accident and all.  Hope he recovers completely.  Thanks for sharing, makes my sh1tty day seem... not so bad.

And don't hold your breath on those 7 figures.  Lawyers tend to take most of that, yanno?  Freaking thieves...

No kidding -- this one's on life support, and a couple of bad SCOTUS decisions or even one more will spell its doom.

Third Amendment is completely worthless and always has been.  Founders should've put "Any law or regulation passed by the Congress or promulgated by the eventual Federal bureaucracy shall apply equally in to Congress and the bureaucrats as to the common citizen."

Asked this of Maven in another thread, but more appropriate here:  would dig an analysis of why Bram v. U.S. (1897) isn't good law today, even though it seems to prevent extracted police confessions very well and as Miranda (1967 or whenever) doesn't address.
