i think its more for the person doing the interview. our interview was so fast and easy.

it seemed for us anyway it was just a formality and we were most likely going to be approved anyway

I am hoping ours is the same. 😕

MY HUSBAND's AOS WAS APPROVED THIS WEEK!

AOS Interview Experience (NYC Field Office):

- We arrived 10 mins prior to our appointment time and there was a line wrapped around the field office, but it moved fast. As we got closer to the entrance they pulled people out of the line with current appointment times. By that time it was like 10 mins past our scheduled appointment time on the notice and it was fine. Once inside they reviewed and stamped the appointment notice, took his fingerprints, and gave us a number to wait. It’s a letter+number system once you’re inside the waiting area.

We waited about 30 minutes to be called. We had a pretty easy going (personality-wise) Asian man as our officer. Although his personality was chill, he did not hold back at all with the questions! He asked us both a ton of questions, but mostly all very easy superficial date questions (when did this happen, when did that happen). For documents, he asked for copies of a few civil documents and identification for the both of us. Since he would have no idea that we had a baby since the time of application...I gently asked if he wanted our baby’s birth certificate? He said oh, you two have a child together? Yes, I’ll take it. He also asked for copies of my financial info for the I-864 affidavit of support even though it was submitted with the original packet.

BTW, we had a friend available by phone to be his translator, as instructed in the interview notice, but we didn’t need them. The officer used one of their translators via phone. He had the translator on speaker phone the duration of the interview.

One of the first questions he asked hubby was where we live and when the address he said didn’t match the one on his app I had to clarify that we moved and that they still scheduled us based on our old address. I told him that the new address should be in their system though. He confirmed that it was and asked if we wanted to continue the interview there or have it moved closer to our home. No idea why he asked us that because not sure who would do that if they’re already there at the interview lol. Anyway, I kindly said no thanks we’ll continue here.

He then continued to grill hubby on all the key events of our relationship. Hubby has terrible memory, always has, and messed up a few dates. We both explained that his memory is shot to hell and dates/numbers are not his thing. The man can’t remember a thing honestly plus his nerves didn’t help. For my birthday he said the right date but wrong year making me a 63 year old woman lmao. We all laughed...like ugh are you sure about that? That’s when the Officer knew we weren’t lying. From then on, when ever he ###### up a date he just paused and let him think about it and re-answer. Smh

Then he went through the yes/no questions on the I-485. After that he asked us to provide our phone numbers in case anything adverse came up in our background checks and then dismissed us. He said if you don’t get a call from me then you’re good lol. Walking out of the interview we both felt like he went in, but was chill, so were pretty confused to be honest.
He never asked for any relationship evidence, no photos, nada. All that prep para nada! The only thing he asked for was if we had the deed for our new home and I told him no I don’t have it plus it’s in my name so it wouldn’t prove anything.

About 30 minutes after we left I checked my Case Tracker app, and to my surprise his case status had already changed to “new card is being produced!”

OMG! THANK YOU!  I am so glad you shared your experience.  I have gotten mixed responses on whether or not a friend, family, or acquaintance can be a translator.  So, I was concerned we weren't going to be able to find someone for "free", and I didn't want to pay a professional translator to then be told they can't come in because of COVID.  I also didn't know whether or not they would provide options (like the phone translations).  Your idea of having your own person ready to be called is a good one, so I will do that too.  Plus, I was concerned that he would be forced to have it in English, which could have caused a lot of miscommunication.  Additionally, I was so anxious with dates and how that would mess us up.  My husband is terrible at numbers, dates, etc. and I was worried that it would cause a red flag situation.  But, now that I read your experience, I am more at ease.  I am guessing even the most "tough" officer would recognize men are not good for that AND the being nervous thing can affect the answers.  I appreciate you sharing, since we are on the same boat with the language, translator, AND bad memory.  I APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH!

I am hoping ours is the same. 😕

if it helps, it seems to me that the officers are looking for reasons to approve people, not to deny people, if that makes sense. i think they would much rather approve, and thats why they ask the questions they do and the follow ups as needed. i think ours had looked over our case and materials before we even stepped into the office.

On 11/23/2020 we got message on the app for EAD renewal “Card is being produced”.  When we get it, does this mean it will be EAD only and not combo card? Not that it matters, since we have the GC interview soon.  But, I am intrigued because we never got anything on AP renewal

Same for me, on the exact same date.  I'm gonna go out on a limb and say your AP will be on it too.  My AP number makes no mention of it being issued as of that date, but a similar thing happened the first time around and I got the combo card.  Just wish I would see some movement on the AOS interview front 😥

Guys, I am worried and nervous about my interview.

I only have the following evidences

-marriage certificate

-joint bank account

-power bill

-pictures

I hope these evidences are enough to establish our bona-fide relationship. Besides we have been married a little over 2 years.

Do you have shared insurance or other things that can show you have established services/contracts together?

We don’t have a lease or bills under our names because I inherited the house from my parents and they live with us, so a lot of the utilities are under my dad’s name, since they are both still alived. But, we will bring evidence of being on the same health insurance (copies of cards, HSA, etc), letter from the bak to show joint bank account, our 2019 taxes that we filed together, our Disney annual pass contract, our rings insurance, snip from TMobile to show both lines are there under the same account, even though the bill doesn’t say his name, pictures, and cards we have given each other at different holidays.

To be honest, if you have been together (married) over two years, the evidence you mentioned you have should be enough. Just practice some of the common questions like important dates, proposal, wedding, etc.  I don’t think they expect everyone to have all that evidence because people have different  living arrangements, especially with 2020 being so weird.

It changed yesterday (11/25/2020) to “card produced”. Thank you for letting me know. We will wait and see! Aww, I am sorry to hear that. Have you submitted an inquiry? I think that is what got us our interview. Try using the new inbox on the USCIS website under your account. We just sent a message regarding the AP missing NOA and it prompted all these movements.

We both work in the same company and our health insurance is provided through the company so we have our  separate health insurance. My hubby thinks the evidence is enough but i am concerned.

I hope i get approved
