You can travel to Indonesia, get married there, and then petition for a spousal visa for her.  Or, in the unlikely event that she is approved for a B-2 visitor's visa, she could come here, marry you, then return to Indonesia to wait until the petition is approved.

Either way - approx one year till approval.

So if I did visit her there, marry her, and wait for her visa to here be approved, if worst case scenario she decided to divorce me, what would I lose in that situation?

You mean from an immigration perspective?  When you sponsor an immigrant and they come to the US, you are responsible for them under certain parameters, even if a divorce occurs.

Time and money.

So I’m going to make this short and sweet. I want my girlfriend that I met online to come to the US. We have never met in person before. What’s the best and easiest method to get her here? What should I expect and how long is the wait? We don’t even know where to start. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Did you post this same topic on Reddit?  If so then you were given very good advice on that thread as well. You would need to go there to see her and either get engaged or get married.

The K1 visa is roughly 9-12 months until she can come to the USA. You two get married and then file for AOS for her. She will then can't work for 3-5 months until the EAD is in hand.

The CR1 visa takes 12-16 months on average but you get ABC right away.

I actually did! 😂

Yeah they were more worried about the scam aspect of it. But I knew what you meant about her interning at the embassy.

The very first thing you need to do is to visit her and see you two mesh well.

So she has an interview on Monday and used to work at the Consulate at some point in some position so should be aware of all the options, so asking you is odd?

Thanks man/woman, you are very helpful! But what is an AOS and EAD?

Please read the Guides (links atop VJ pages) and all associated threads.

Thread is moved from General Immigation Discussion to "What Visa Do I Need."

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

So I read through the guides, but it seems unlikely that she could ever get a K-1 to come here since we have never met in person. :(

Well that's why I said the first thing you need to do is to go there and see if you get along together. What is her education level and in what?

She just graduated with a 2 year degree in Strategic Business. Could be 4 years but I’m almost certain it’s 2.

Then more than likely she won't qualify for any higher level work visas. She can try a J1 or a H2b visa.
