Could they potentially go visit or talk to an ex spouse to make sure you are genuinely broken up and that it isn’t just a temporary split so you can marry an American, get the green card, then divorce the American, and remarry the original spouse yep they could but is it likely nah. Should you worry - well if you are genuine then you have nothing to worry about (not to say that ap and visits don’t have the potential to add to wait times even if they are erroneous but at least you have a clear conscious).

They theoretically could happen anywhere, and it's possible they have at nearly every country over the years.

But it appears to be much more common in certain countries than others....and even then I would be inclined to believe it's still uncommon.

If your ex wife originally petitioned you there is a possibility that they contacted her.

Unless there is something obvious that would make you inadmissible there should be no consequences.
