Question on IV Bill

Hello !

A quick summary so no one has to ask =) I am a USC and my husband is Canadian Citizen. We were married in 2005. I immigrated to Canada in 2005 and now we are planning his immigration back to the USA. Fairly new to the USA process and trying to figure out proper forms =) We will be filing his I-130 through the Toronto Consulate(have not filed yet, waiting on long birth certificate).

I just have a quick question on the iv bill....since a great portion of the immigration costs have been changed....will the iv bill fee change as well ? I have been trying to find info as to exactly what is entailed on the iv bill and not coming up with much info. Any one out that can help me with this, would be much appreciated.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean with the IV Bill. If you're going through Direct Consular Filing, you will have a fee to file the I-130 (this is going up as of July 31st, but if you file it before then, you'll pay the current fee), and then a fee to pay for the I-864 (currently totals a little under $400) when your husband goes for his interview (this is also going up as of July 31st).

There is no fee for I-864 processing unless the NVC is involved, which it isn't in DCF cases, and in that case the fee is $70.

There is a fee for processing the immigrant visa (IV) application, which is $300 and something, almost $400. That fee is not for the I-864.

This is my question -- probably the same as that of the person who started this thread:

Is that "fee for processing the immigrant visa (IV) application, which is $300 and something, almost $400" also increasing at the end of July? I'm starting to think it's not because it's not a USCIS fee and I can't find it on the new-fee list, but I still have my doubts. Does anyone know for sure? (By the way, it's currently $335 + a $45 security surcharge = $380)

So let me see if I understand this a lil bit better.

If I file through DCF, the fees I will have will be the I-130 ( which is currently $190 until July '07), the I-864 ($70), DS-230 (roughly $400)?

If the other fees are being raised, will the DS-230 be raised as well ?

This says these were effective May 1, 2007 , so I am assuming these will go up again ?

Another question, if I file through DCF, would my husband have do the adjustment of status once he lands, or is the adjustment of status only if he was in the USA when I filed petition for him ?

Immigration to the USA definetly more challenging than I expected =) I am still trying to put peices together and decipher what is what.

Fees for DCF: I-130 and Visa at interview = total circa 600 USD. NO PAYMENT FOR DS-230. Travel to Montreal for interview and lodging costs. C'est tout.

DCF does not need adjustment of status. You have been married for more than 2 years so no Adjustment of anything and no Removal of Conditions either - it's the perfect situation, really.

Now do brace yourself for a loooooooooooooooooooooooong process. Calculate 9+ months from beggining to end.

Great point to make!!!! TOTALLY forgot about the costs of the medical AND the police certificate - in our case they added up to about $300 CAD. These vary from province to province.- Usually the police certificates are cheaper in the suburbs than in big cities (in my experience).

And then, obviously the trip to MTL expenses.

Now we are just waiting on my husbands long form birth certificate from BC (unfortunately we have to wait for snail mail to get it to us in Ontario! hehe) Sooo hopefully it will be here the next few days so we can get the I-130 in.

Now a another question.....

My husband spent most of his life in BC. For the police clearence, when I went to the website it stated he had to phsically be there to get a background check. Anyone out there that has experienced what to do when you live on one side of Canada but need clearance from the other side(to clarify, my husband and i live in ontario but need a clearance from BC)

The police clearance has to be Canada wide - which means that only one is issued - ask in your local police or in the nearest RCMP detachment for a Canada wide name search police certificate. Now, very important: I assume your hubby is a good guy and has no criminal record - if he was rowdy he he, then he needs to get a fingerprint police certificate which takes way longer.

In any case, there is only ONE certificate that covers all provinces. - check the Canada forum for more info.
