chase away a door to door salesman. No practical purpose to have one nowadays though.

The stated purpose is still practical in many places...

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

You have answered your own question. If "fine" is the writing experience you're satisfied with, then you don't have to worry about understanding the "experience." Many people cook edible food without a quality knife, drive to their destinations in a basic vehicle, and work out in off-brand trainers. They too are "fine." But a chef who has earned that title does not settle on the quality of his knives, nor does an Olympic athlete settle for off-brand footwear. If the message you want to convey in your hand writing is grace, style, and professionalism, then the fountain pen is the tool in which those qualities can be best expressed.

A lot of chefs swear by Henckels or Wüsthof, but I find them rather barbaric, blunt tools.  I have a love affair with Kai Shun blades, and own several.

But fountain pens?  Just don't get it.  Then again. I cook a lot, and rarely do I write.

I have a set of Wüsthof Classics at home, and I'm pretty happy with them. I cook a lot too, and I think they're fine, well-balanced knives, suitable for the kind of mostly simple cooking I do these days. I've been living on my own for two and a half years, and for the most part it's been cooking for one. 😕

I write a lot too (working on a novel on and off all summer -- not that I expect it will ever get published, or that it's really any good), but I use my laptop for that. And as I've said before, I've been proclaimed only worthy of using a biro (i.e., ballpoint)! The lessons on driving a manual/stick shift were even worse than the fountain pen ones -- four miserable evenings in a Best Buy parking lot on the edge of Sierra Madre, stalling his Lotus Elan and grinding through the gears. I was forced to abandon this, for the sake of the car.

People see my handwriting and immediately know I am a doctor.... Wonder if I switch to a quality fountin pen will that make my writing legible?

I'm familiar with Kai Shun. Beautiful knives, very unique.

If you cook a lot, then you understand the value of a good knife. It's the same with writing. If you write a lot, a good fountain pen is a must. Trying to do quality writing with a "Bic" would be like trying to prepare a cullinary masterpiece with a cheap knife from Walmart.

They're not a bad knife. I had a similar set, traded them to my ex in the settlement for some odds and ends. I definitely got the better part of the deal.

Spooky -- that's how I ended up with my set! I was only too happy to give away the Wedgwood china my mother-in-law had given us as a wedding present -- not only was it HIDEOUS, it was selected by her. :dead:

Actually, it's down where you are that everyone's working on a screenplay -- my sister worked on hers for about five years, but mostly she used it to look like she was smart while she sat around in coffeeshops, hoping to get picked up by studio execs. This was down in Burbank, where I grew up, and coincidentally where I am right now (flew down this afternoon after the England match). Going out with a couple of my girlfriends shortly -- started pre-gaming already so I am a little... lubricated. 🍾🍸🥂

Welcome back to L.A. I'd invite you and your friends over, but I'm fresh out of the boxed "wine." 😉

There is nothing wrogn with boxed wine! Well, some of them, lol.

We are on a mission -- and this is sort of apropos of nothing but I am bored out of my mind at the moment. I am down here because a friend of mine has been acting super sketchy recently according to our mutual friend. To keep this straight let's call them Sketch and Driver. Another of our friends is along for the ride, we'll call her ABD (because she is ABD on her PhD and very sensitive about it). So Driver and Sketch normally have dinner every week and for the past month, Sketch has begged off every time. Big deal I think, but Sketch is DEFINITELY a creature of habit. Plus Driver is convinced that Sketch has been acting funny for a while like there's some big secret -- and she saw Sketch's car (or one that looks just like it) near Sketch's ex's house in Glendale the other week. So now ABD and I have come down from the Bay Area together to act like we're amateur detectives with Driver which honestly looks even stupider when I type it out.  I was like, how old are we? Why is this even a thing? But I wanted an excuse to come down here anyway and see my parents, so here I am in the back of a Tesla bored and wishing I were at a bar instead or at least hitting the boxed wine.
