:( Somalia?????? Really?

Anyway, we should take this over to the other thread, I don't want this one to get closed down for going off topic. I will reply to you there.

Basically the plan is to rejoin the EU and become a beneficiary.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Chivalry is dead.

Nevertheless, fashion designers should bring back the codpiece.

This addition to the wardrobe would enable storage of extra stuff:  handkerchiefs, loose change, business cards, etc.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Speaking of chivalry, apparently it's all us feminists' fault that it's dead. https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/carol-roth-restaurants-manners-etiquette-equality-feminists

To dote on a woman and to raise her up on a pedestal is a signal of respect, not a reflection of inferiority.

I have a REAL problem with this attitude. To dote on a woman, fine. I think a woman wants her partner to dote on her. But raising her on a pedestal? That, to me at least, means that women are somehow more pure, more special than men -- and sets them up for a bigger fall when they prove to be human and mess up. It's like saying, I have this ideal of who my wife/girlfriend/fiancee is and there she is, up there for me to behold in her perfection. But when that figure doesn't match the ideal, the fall can be hurtful for both parties involved. I've been in that situation -- treated as though I was some ideal of a woman that was nothing like me. I'm weird and get things wrong and I doubt myself all the time and I can be really, really awkward. I mess things up. I can't even use a fountain pen properly! It is possible to respect a woman, your partner, without making her into some minor goddess.

Since a woman wrote that, perhaps women need to get together and figure out collectively what is and isn't proper. How the heck am I supposed to decipher the mystery of what you expect/want when you can't either.

It took courage to admit that in front of everyone. 😁

Seriously though, who does know how to use a fountain pen properly? I can't even remember the last time I saw one.

Or you could consider that we are all individuals, and capable of having different opinions. :D

I can't figure men out at all, if I could I wouldn't have messed up so completely in the past! Answer me this: why would a grown man leave his sweaty, nasty, used football (soccer) kit in the corner of his bedroom NEAR but not IN the hamper? For almost a week? Gross. He knows what I feel about it and still it doesn't migrate into the hamper until I do it on Friday nights.

The person who I steal Netflix from ONLY uses fountain pens. We had several lessons that did not go well.

I'll skip the usual Netflix lecture, because you've hit upon one of my true joys. There is nothing in this world quite like the feel of a fountain pen between your fingers. The way the nib glides across paper on a thin veneer of ink, practically of its own volition. The heft of a good pen feels "right," and girth of the thing ensures your hand remains cramp-free. Unlike its disposable counterpart,  it is a tool that will remain with you until the end. Anybody wanting to make an impression knows the usual, a good suit, tasteful furnishings, etc, but a fountain pen will set you above and beyond anyone else. Give it another try, it's very worth it.

I do, but if i hold the door for you, will you a. Thank me, b. Correct me or c. Dismiss me as-if i did not exist, mind you all 3 are acceptable to me. But i need to anticipate what your expectations are, left to my own devices i am overly polite and gracious. If your car is broken down, should i offer assistance, support or just ignore you. If you are on a public conveyance, should i offer you my seat, make room for your packages or inwardly smile i get to sit while you stand? Why do i need to make accomodations for state of being. Politeness isnt always about getting laid, i am in my mid 60s its part of who i am, the expectation of my generation age group. You can thank me or ignore me, if your thought is to correct me, your guilty of what you believe i am guilty of.

The answer to your question is (a). I am polite and always grateful for a kind gesture. :)

Personally, I think you should go for it in terms of offering seats, or opening doors, or whatever. I do it for people of all genders (all the 74 we're told about :P ) if they look like they need a hand. Only jerks don't do these things. If someone says they don't need a hand, I think, okay, no worries. Maybe it's because I'm a woman that no one corrects me about it. I think there's a way to say no thank you that isn't a correction at all, just a nice, "I'm okay, but thanks." That's not aggressive at all. People who are aggressive about it should be dismissed themselves -- thankfully there are a lot fewer of those out there than people who will say thanks and accept, say no thanks and be nice, or just ignore.

Totally not about getting laid! :D It's just being polite, and I get it, and often appreciate it.

Aw Boris, just pulling your chain a little. :P

I did really try with the fountain pen, and I love how they look and feel in my hand. I have a couple of decent Mont Blanc rollerballs now (courtesy of he-who-forgot-to-change-the-password) that I greatly enjoy using. At work, it's pencils only due to the nature of what we do, so I can't really use them here. The last Christmas present I gave him was a Pelikan Souveran, nothing too fancy. I just loved how it looked.

I tried to come up with a list of the top 5 reasons to use a fountain pen. Unfortunately I'm stuck on number 1.
