I haven't told anyone in my family for this exact reason. With the nonsense my father spouts about immigration I see no reason why he should have the joy to meet my fiance, or the opportunity to throw a wrench into things. I'll tell my family after we are married. However all my close friends I consider my actual family have met her.

Many people are not on speaking terms with family, it's not a law or requirement to be close. My mother is a whole different POS I haven't spoken to in 17 years.

My father got remarried without a peep, only found out after. I see no reason not to return the favor. I'm on great terms with him as we run a business together but IMO him knowing doesn't improve things in the slightest.

I haven't told anyone in my family either! I'm debating if I will ever bother to do so. I have only told a select few friends and coworkers. My family is also anti-immigration and anti non tradition. I was also thinking of announcing it after we are married. Glad to know I'm not the only one!

Same here, they're going to want the white chapel wedding with my Grandfather doing the sermon and I am not a believer. They will wholeheartedly take over and play the endless guilt card to the point where I have to be a complete ####### for them to get the point. Zero upside for any of them to know.

Checking in with you guys! December is here - I've been doing a lot of stats work to try and work out the queue!

Good luck all and hope to see some 09 NOA2 soon! The first AUG NOA1 managed to get in in OCT! Lucky!

Cheers

JY

If you are living with the parents, they will most likely see your mail and wonder why immigration is mailing them and get a big surprise!

I would be very cautious on how you tell the parents, try to be in good terms, keep it civil and ease it in slowly. Parents hate "the fiance" it's so common these days...but parents that hate "the fiance" during immigration is very risky, not saying they would, but keep in mind, they COULD attempt to destroy the relationship by reporting fraud(maybe not during the K1 process, but during the AOS).  That is worst case scenario cuz I would hope parents would NEVER do that to their kids.

I live on my own. I did not provide my parents' contact information for anything.

Whenever I mention a courthouse wedding, my mother says it would be nice to do it in a backyard. No way. We don't want a ceremony at all. Better to do it our way.

My fiance wants a ceremony and I want to give that to her. But it's going to be in her hometown of Wakayama. I am not treating the courthouse wedding as anything but a legal matter. She will be wearing a Kimono and they will be invited to join but there will be no discussion about it. They will try to turn the vegas ceremony into "their" wedding for sure.

I'm suggesting you take this conversation privately as many here don't want to weed through your conversation. Here is a simple way of continuing your conversation right here on VJ. On the persons nick, choose it and it will take you to their profile page. In the upper center is a link for "message" . Select it and it takes you to the Personal Messaging page. You'll compose a PM to the individual. Once one of you has completed the link to other then you will be in a PM between the two of you. You both do not need to start a new PM just one of you and then you continue to use the same PM for your conversation. Thank you.

I know how to use the internet. I'll make sure to do that in the future.

No one said you didn't know but maybe, just maybe you didn't know how to use the PM feature and with out the knowledge of how much you know about VJ's website, I thought I would help you along. So smile, it doesn't hurt to help someone. :D

Helping was exactly what I was doing in response to others comments in this thread to reassure similar experiences, since I thought that's what this place was for, before my comments were said to be off topic. I would think anything in relation to this phase of the process would be relevant but I was wrong.

Thank you for the guidance of what is not topic and how to avoid it in the future. It won't happen again.

Chit chat is acceptable but to go on and on about a subject concerning your family and you wedding plans does go against what we are here for and that is to help. I'm sorry you took my recommendation personally but I am not here to do anything more then to help you get your visa by answering your concerns. I do not opine on wedding arrangements. Let's work together to maximize the information we can share to the group and take any long conversations off line using PM. I appreciate it and I am sure there are others who have the same thoughts.

LOL. Im good, just been busy and doing my own thing for the time being. How are you? I bet you are getting excited as you are one of the first in our little group that *should* be getting your NOA2 :D

Yeah, i am both excited and anxious. Also kinda pressured, like, we're one of those with the first NOA1 but what if we're the last to get approved? 😱

Nothing you can do if you are last but find a way to deal with it. I was the last in my month. It's not a good feeling I'll admit but you have to deal with it.

4 years, 11 months, 2 weeks and 3 days

Citizenship Complete!

USCIS is like a box of chocolates, you never know what kind of answer you are going to get!!!!

Yeah, that's the only thing I could do if ever. But hopefully, we get our approval early anyway. 😁
