Also the guy on the phone said now petitions are not sent by mail to embassies, but digitally.  Not sure if he was right, but he seemed pretty confident.

They're definitely still sent physically to most embassies/consulates, or the 'DHL hack' wouldn't find anything.

Also was definitely the case for Moscow as of January that they wouldn't work on your case until the physical copy got there; not sure about other embassies/consulates.

Is anyone calling from abroad?

The thought of being on hold for 30+ minutes every time has me just waiting around for an email notification instead.🥺

You can use Google voice calling. It is free for US number destinations.

I’m here in the states and don’t want to sit on hold for an hour or longer. From the way I see it you can’t get anything done faster until you get the email anyway. Why bother?

It helps in planning.  Some of us want to know how the case is progressing so we can plan the future and dates etc.  Not to move it faster.

Sure we’d like to make plans too. But we can’t make any definite plans until my fiancé has her visa and we’ve confirmed it’s correct.

I plan to go be with her for her interview.  Knowing some ballpark of when that is going to be helps me with my plans to be with her.  Also, the embassy is far away from where she is.  So we need to book air tickets etc.

Thanks! Apparently Google voice calling doesn't work here in NZ - I downloaded "Google Hangouts" but looks like I'll have to pay like Skype for that. I'll just have to fork it out to make the call I guess.

For NZ embassy I believe once we have our case # we can request police report/court records and make medical appointment. Depending on how long that stuff takes, it wouldn't hurt having the case # few weeks sooner 🤷‍♀️
