Hello--my I129-F was approved on September 4, and I have not heard a peep since then. Does anyone know if this is a typical wait time? (I haven't read through this whole thread, so I apologize if this has been asked and answered multiple times).

you definitely should have gotten your case ID by now.. have you tried calling ?

Typical wait time right now from NOA2 to NVC "In Transit" is 47 days (add up steps 3 & 4 here: https://www.visajourney.com/content/k1historical/ ). You won't hear from them until your case is "In Transit", although if you call them you can sometimes get your case # and then you can check your status on the CEAC web site (links and phone numbers are in the pdf in the first post of the thread). If you haven't called them yet, it's likely your case # has been assigned and will go out in the next shipment (not sure if that's this week or next week).

Folks, is it advisable to start the process of consulate appointment when the packet leaves NVC?  At my consulate (Mumbai) appointments are hard to get and around 40 days in the future.

Or does the consulate also have to do something to get "ready" to interview the candidate, even after it has received the packet from NVC, and one should only book appointment if signaled to do so by consulate.

Since most people here are from a different Embassy then you their process often times is different then yours. So, having said that let me help you along.  Here is the information you will need for the interview.

Here is the letter that you will receive from Mumbai Embassy. Read it over carefully and follow the instructions. Another member of VJ added some additional information contained below which outlines what he experienced.

Once you received your case number from NVC,  I would recommend you fill out DS-160 form and submit. Some say the packet 3 letter is nothing just waste of time same thing they have mention which you easily get from USCIS website when you called to the clinics to book your medical appointment date they will ask you have you received your packet letter or not. Just say yes and booked the appointment date however you will receive that letter within 2 weeks the day you will get your NVC number.

Go on USCIS website make your account with password and then pay your fees to Citibank or Axis bank. They will give you reference number. With that number you can book your biometric and interview appointment date. The fees are 18,500 and for medical but I recommend that you carry 20,000 with you in the event you need more. Be sure to  keep at least 7 days gap between medical and interview.

Sir, can you tell me if this information would apply to Rio on Brazil as well?

NO! BUT... this information does.

You should become familiar with your country's sub-forum here on VJ to get a better understanding of the process for the Embassy that you will be interviewing with. This will allow you to get direct answers from those who have completed the steps you are about to take at the US Embassy - Brazil.  Sub-forum for Brazil is located here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/96-mexico-latin-south-america/

This is the Packet 3 (P3) letter from your Embassy.

There is a lot of information on the Embassy for Brazil here https://br.usembassy.gov/visas/frequently-asked-questions-non-immigrant-visas/

A thread were a lot of chatter about the process for the Brazil Embassy and interview

For additional information on the Immigration Visa process and required documents, please refer to your letter or email or visit the Consular Section Website at https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-BR/iv/information/iv_overview.

Brazilian Visa applicant(s) under the age of 14 and Non-Brazilian Visa applicants under the age of 14 do not need to appear in person at the Applicant Service Center (ASC) appointment however they must attend in person the Consular Section interview. The parent must bring the minor child's documentation including a printed photo (A 5 x 5 cm (2 x 2 inches) colored printed photo, taken within the last 6 months and with white background. For additional instructions on photo requirement for the US Department of States, please visit https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/photos.html to the Applicant Service Center on behalf of the child.

The Brazilian interview requires all documents presented at the interview to be originals. The I-134 does not require a "wet" signature.

Rio gives you the option of mailing your passport/visa back to you after the interview, or pick it up when it is ready. The mailing option takes about 14 days and I have seen that sometimes it takes more. So we signed up to go pick it up when ready... IT TOOK 2 DAYS for the passport to be ready for pick up!!! This is a huge help since we are in a time crunch!

What is the next step?

There is a pdf file on the first page of this thread first entry and will answer all your questions.

NOTE:

Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline OR your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine their Embassy. The country that should be used is the country where the interview will take place.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Go to the top right of this page select your name (it's on the upper right-hand corner)>my profile>[below your picture on the right column] edit my profile. Scroll to the bottom and fill in "Immigration Info". There now we can better serve you.

Once you finish that then return and you will see a flag in your profile. Select it and see what wonderful information will open up for you.

My NOA2 was September 25th and I haven't received anything yet. I received my hard copy from USCIC but I haven't heard anything from anyone since then. Do you think its time to call NVC?

If you been following this thread faithfully this question has been asked and answered. I recommend that you go to the first page of this thread and you will find a link in the first post that will give you lots of information concerning the steps to take to follow your case all the way to the embassy. The answer to your question can be found in that link. Take a look, I think you will agree that it is very helpful.

I hope the NVC ships to Mumbai today.  The earliest appointment for Mumbai is Dec-5.

I am all set with DS-160 complete, ustraveldocs fee paid.  Will book VAC and Embassy appointments as soon as CEAC status changes to "in transit".  I will need the appointment confirmation page to do the medical.  According to folks in various threads, Packet 4 for India may or may not required for the medical and in any case one can take a Packet 4 printout and insist that the medical be done.  In fact in many cases Packet 4 was never received or not received before embassy appointment.
