The NVC produced my Case # on Aug 27 for me and my fiancee in China, only a week after they received my documentation! They told me to await an email with further instructions. Sorry for the plethora of questions...

  1. Is there anything my fiancee and I can do ahead of time? She already has her red/white book and police certificate prepared.
  2. What's the difference between DS-160 and DS-260, and which one should we fill out?
  3. I'm looking to switch jobs with a 3 week break in-between, which I'm planning to use to visit my fiancee in China, and we plan on scheduling her Guangzhou interview at the same time as my trip. However, I'm also planning to submit employment confirmation as part of Form I-134. Will the embassy care that the employment letter may be slightly outdated, and that I may not currently be employed?

Q1. The GUZ P3 is what prevents people in China from getting a head start, they want the instructions page mailed back with the requested documents.

P3 Letter for China:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gcrLW0OCkGfdz43tehWNmgDayJUrRTdj/view?usp=sharing

U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou when it is time to schedule an interview. K visa applicants will be notified by the U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou when it is time to schedule an interview. You cannot schedule your interview appointment till such time as you have been sent the P3 letter from the Embassy and have returned the requested documents.

Here is some help from other members here on VJ:
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/94-china/

And the Portal here on VJ for processing in China and what to expect
http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=China&cty=Guangzhou

and the http://www.ustraveldocs.com/cn/cn-iv-visaapplyinfo.asp

Don't waste time while you're waiting for P3, complete DS-160 and print confirmation page. Since you are from China go to the 2nd link below and click immigrant to register under K1 visa. After you register and enter info it should be clear on how to pay fee, make sure you print bank deposit slip. Just follow directions under Nonimmigrant Visa, but make sure when you register K1 is under Immigrant Visa.

Directions go to http://www.ustraveldocs.com/cn/cn-niv-visaapply.asp

Register(Create Account) https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/?language=English&country=China

After you register make sure to choose K1 visa under Immigrant, it wasn't an option for under non-immigrant.

Q2. DS-160 is for a K-1 Petition and DS-260 is for other types especially foe CR-1. You'll fill out the DS-160.

Q3-1 First off it is going to be very difficult to plan your interview date as you have more hoops to jump through then the average embassy to secure your appointment.

Q3-2 You must show income to secure a Visa.  Either yours or a co-sponsor. If you left employment you can't necessary use the employment letter from a firm you don't work for anymore. That would get you denied on the grounds of committing a fraud. Having a new employment letter from your new employer would go a long way in securing your visa.

Hopefully our case will move from NVC to Embassy this week as our case number was assigned August 19th. My question: Because of the Labor Day Holiday will the shipment scheduled to go out on Tuesday still make it out or will it be delayed? Anyone familiar with the previous practice?

Past history says it will go out on Tuesday.

Hi Greenbaum, thank you for all the information!

Going off the question above...for the i-134, is it necessary to include all the supporting documents if I meet the income threshold from my 2018 US tax returns?

I am the petitioner currently living and employed in NZ until Oct 31... then I will either have some other temporary employment or be unemployed for a few months until my fiance and I get his visa approved so we can go to the US together.

So, I don't think a letter from my NZ employer will help and I can't get officer of my bank accounts to write letters with my bank statements. So, I plan on only including my 2018 tax returns. - I have a professional corporation in CA that I can use as my self-employment status with my tax returns.

Let me know if this doesn't make sense.

Yes, I am a US citizen on a 1 year work visa in NZ (we were over the long-distance thing, so I decided to move to NZ for the year). I mailed in the 129f from here (NZ) and we will be completing everything else from here as well.

We are also living in NZ and just got our NOA2!

My fiancé, the USC, has been working full time here and in Australia for the last few years but we are still using his grandmother as our co-sponsor because he hasn't had a tax return in the US for ages. He still has to fill out i-134 as well though right?

Hi fellow Kiwi! Congrats!

From what I have gathered yes, he would be your sponsor as he is the petitioner so would need the i-134, and his grandmother would be the co-sponsor and fill out her own i-134 (not 100% sure though...)

check if your embassy's website (should be abu dhabi i think) has any information, but generally yes i believe you would need police clearance from both countries and any other you might have lived in for longer in the past
