An update for those of you who said Vegas was the only place where you could get a certified copy of a marriage licence back super quick: you can apparently add my small town in Tennessee to the list lol. Got married yesterday, the judge gave us back the licence, took it to the county clerk this morning and bought our certified copy on the spot for $5.

Congrats! That's great news!

I applied for SSN the day after we got here and had no issues and got the card pretty fast.

How did you apply for it so fast? I've waited on the phone for 2 hours to book an appointment 2.5 weeks away... Does the SSA allow walk-ins? How long did you have to wait?

Thanks. I'll do that tomorrow morning then... Any idea how long I should prepare to spend there?

Yes we just walked in. There was a bit of a wait though.

3 months? Wow, that's crazy.

Here in NC our officiant filed it after the wedding and I think we got it in the mail a few days later. I think they had a way we could do it same day, but we figured a few days was fine.

Same day in Texas too, on the spot to include several copies.

Oh, I see! I’ll definitely need to take a closer look into AOS then. If all the extra stuff isn’t totally necessary, I’ll make a point to file before the 90 days are up so I’m not out of status. Thanks!

Plus it's kinda hard to gather all that proof in 90 days, especially if you have no SSN.

We have been to the SS office twice, both as walk-ins. The first time we were there 2 hours and the second time we were there 15 minutes. It just depends. Some people wait all day, but you'll be seen.

First wanted to thank this community for answering our previous questions. Our K1 interview went perfectly and processing was unbelievably quick.

Now we're planning our next steps and want to make sure we're doing things right. Here's what we're planning:

-Sat Oct 5: entry into US from Canada

-Mon Oct 7: apply for marriage license

-Thurs Oct 10: pick up marriage license

-Sat Oct 12: wedding!

-Mon Oct 14: submit AOS paperwork

-Fri Oct 18: apply for SSN

-Sat Oct 19: honeymoon!

Entry, license, wedding, and honeymoon are fixed dates at this point. We'd like to get paperwork moving asap.

So what about our timing of SSN and AOS paperwork? I remember reading we should wait 2 weeks from after fiancee enters US.. correct? Or should we try earlier?

And for AOS, some paperwork asks for SSN if we have it. By the time it's mailed, technically "yes." Should we send AOS paperwork sooner than later to get things moving, or wait until we have SSN?

Thanks for any guidance on this!

Love that you posted your timeline going forward.

Quick question: my interview is at the end of November. I want to stay in Montreal after interview until I am approved for entry as my destination is Boston.

Can an you tell me how long it took for you to get your approval for entry after interview? Really trying to avoid going all the way back to the west coast only to have to enter through east coast.

Thanks again to anyone who has some advice for me!!

Ours was very quickly actually. We expected a much longer wait but it was about a week or so. That being said, it could be much longer if it gets stuck in administrative processing for any reason.
