New US Immigration Law Protests

Hi everyone...

I just had to post something to vent my feelings about all the protests going on regarding the proposed new immigration laws regarding ILLEGAL ALIENS.

Watching the news it really aggrevates me that thousands and thousands of people are protesting the fact that they want to make being and abiding an illegal alien a felony.

I'm sorry.. but too bad!! These people are ILLEGAL !!!! Why should they be able to just come into America because they are able to climb underneath a fence in Texas or hide on a boat or whatever??

How fair is that for ALL OF US who are going about bringing our spouses and loved ones into the country LEGALLY??? Besides the obvious fact that we are doing things properly, why should we spend the money we are spending to go about it legally when so many are sneaking into the country??

It makes me soooo crazy!! If these people want to be in America so badly than do what the rest of us are doing: Follow the rules, pay the fees and have no worrys about being deported much less being considered a felon. Is that too much to ask for?

Am I overreacting on this or do you guys agree with me?

Cari

I agree with you... but someone's bound to bring this up.. the large majority of the illegals can't get into the country legally... they are coming here to try and get jobs and what not... usually working in fields and making money under the table.

I don't support them at all, I think something needs to be done about them, and make it harder for them to get INTO the country.

How it Started

2001 to Feb 2002 - Met online, were acquintances

Mar to Apr 2005 - Talked about finally giving in to our feelings and getting married

Aug 1 to Aug 7, 2005 - Fifth US Visit - Engaged

Time for the Visa

Dec 8, 2005 - Finally mailed Packet

Dec 20, 2005 - NOA1 Notice Date

Dec 27, 2005 - NOA1 Rcv'd in Mail

Mar 10, 2006 - NOA2 Approved

Mar 23, 2006 - NVC Received Packet

Mar 24, 2006 - Case Forwarded to London Embassy

Apr 7, 2006 - Recieved Packet 3

May 11, 2006 - Packet 3 Sent Back

May 24, 2006 - Medical Appointment

May 24, 2006 - Packet 4 Received

Jun 14, 2006 - Interview - APPROVED!!!!!!!

Jun 16, 2006 - Visa Recieved

Yea you're right .. someone will probably bring it up but still... my feelings are if you can't get into the country LEGALLY you have no right to complain much less PROTEST... not when thousands of people are going about the process the proper legal way

I agree totally. I live in Arizona which seems to be a funnel into the US. We are at about 11 million illegal aliens. To be fair, I have read that they actually provide a positive benefit to the US after all the positives and negatives are taken into account. I have no problem with people coming to the US but they should go through the proper channels. The government should make it easier for honest, hard working people to enter the cocuntry and work, thereby taking away the need to sneak in. With sneaking in, we don't know who is coming in, good people or bad. At least with a legal, more streamlined process the odds are better that the people applying are doing so for good reasons.

I totally agree that 1 year plus to get one's spouse into the US is bull****

Yes, I would agree with you. My husband and I live in AZ as well. My Mother in Law works at Phx Children's Hospital, and she tells me that they have indeed written off many medical expenses to illegal immigrants bc they do not have insurance. This does make me a bit mad since my husband pays a lot of money to for health insurance, and we were only able to live on one income for two years. I agree that honest hard working people should be allowed to come in and work, but if we don't regulate the process it'll become flooded.

I can't begin to tell you how angry this makes me! I have been working hard to bring my husband over the legal way and they send back our petition to the CIS because they think our marriage is fraud! Now I have to wait who knows how long! I might as well send my husband to mexico and smuggle him in! Okay, I'm not really going to do it this way, but it just seems wrong.

Sorry.. didn't realize there was a discussion somewhere else.. But what does it have to do with CR-1/IR-1??? Everything!!! We are spouses going thru this process the proper way, paying fees, going thru proper channels and more importantly - being separated from our husbands and wives for months and months! How does this NOT have anything to do with us??

Just one thing on here: The protests have nothing to do with immigration but with immigration enforcement. Everyone on here should protest because this billl means if your foreign spouse happens to accidentally commit a traffic offense it's time to leave the country. Bye bye legal status...

You're spreading fear, uncertainty and doubt. There is nothing in H.R. 4437 that criminalizes traffic infractions. I'd like you to point me to a source for your statement. Meanwhile you should read H.R. 4437 at this link.

HR 4437, Sec 606 states that any alien committing a DUI will be detained until the DHS has decided how to proceed. While illegal aliens will be deported no matter what, there's nothing in the bill that could stop DHS from deportation.

DUI is driving under the influence. Drunk Driving. I FULLY support sending back visa holders who do this. Anyone who drives after drinking is a selfish git and fully deserves whatever befalls them.

You don't "accidentally" drive drunk. So no one "innocent" will be affected by this part of the law. Only the morons who decide it'll be fun to have a few drinks and then get behind the wheel, thus endangering countless other lives.

I can't see having sympathy for someone who has driven drunk and going "Oh, it was an accident -- you can stay". Drunk drivers disgust me and I wish we could get rid of them ALL.

I don't drink normally and I have never driven drunk. However, as much as I'm opposed to drunk driving, I do not think that it is reason to detain people indefinitely (getting DHS to issue a decision can take a while) and to treat them any differently from citizens guilty of the same offense.

There is such a thing as due process and equality before the law and HR 4437 disregards that.

Here is section 606 of H.R. 4437

SEC. 606. REMOVING DRUNK DRIVERS.

(a) In General- Section 101(a)(43)(F) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(43)(F)) is amended by inserting `, including a third drunk driving conviction, regardless of the States in which the convictions occurred, and regardless of whether the offenses are deemed to be misdemeanors or felonies under State or Federal law,' after `offense)'.

(B) Effective Date- The amendment made by subsection (a) shall take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act and shall apply to convictions entered before, on, or after such date.

It modifies the definition of aggravated felonies to include a person convicted of drunk driving for the third times. I don't see how a person that's been convicted of drunk driving three times accidentally commit drunk driving. He should have learned his lesson with the first conviction. And if he continues to drive drunk then that's willful negligence and he derserves to be deported. In most states, a third drunk driving conviction means a felony conviction.

http://www.ncsl.org/programs/lis/dui/felony.htm

In your post you made it sound as if an alien who ran a red light could be placed in federal detention. This is not the case with H.R. 4437. There are a lot of reasons to protest against H.R. 4437, like how it criminalizes overstay, how it redefines the definition of alien smuggling, and how it does not provide more money for USCIS. But I don't think anyone should be protesting against H.R. 4437 because it criminalizes habitual drunk driving.

Any alien who has been convicted of drunk driving three times deserves to be deported. That alien has shown no regard for the lives of others and do not deserve to live in the US.

He should have learned his lesson?

Is it the way to treat people?

I do not drink or drive but this provision of the proposed law is outrageous!

Are we - people who are here with a visa or permanent residency- going to be permanently at the mercy of your government? Under the sword...

How can anyone in his/her right mind support this nonsense?

Are there anything similar for citizens? Do you accept the same treatment for yourself? Not for drunk driving (which I am strongly opposed to....I lost my mother in an 'accident' involving a drunk driver) , but for similar things? Let us deport citizens who did this or that. Would that be OK?

I am now a US citizen.
