Can you go to school after you entered on K-1 and waiting for AOS

Hey! My fiance and I are going to file for the K-1 soon and due to the fact that its a while before you can work, I was wondering how it would work for going to school (University of Minnesota). I assume I would technically need a school visa for this which would just complicate the process so much more. I am also technically a transfer student because I studied at the University of Manitoba and will be transferring in credits from there. Any and all information on this topic is greatly appreciated!

Thank you

Going to school immediately after entering via a K-1 is not prohibited......you do not need a student visa.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Best bet is to contact the school directly, but you will not need a separate student visa in order to study.

You will also want to find out if you will have to pay out of state or foreign student tuition.

I plan to meet with the UofMinnesota in October regarding this!

For my case I SHOULD be paying resident prices no matter what.

"The province of Manitoba has established a tuition reciprocity agreement with the state of Minnesota (USA). This agreement allows Minnesota residents to pay the SAME TUITION at participating post-secondary institutions as Manitoba residents." https://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/ie/study/mn_mb.html

Many State required you have to live at that state  minimum for a year to qualify for in-state tuition.

reciprocity agreement would nullify that residency requirement.

My wife started taking a couple classes 2 months after coming to the U.S. on a K-1.  She qualified for in-state / in-county tuition based on marriage.  There was a form to complete and we needed to provide a copy of the marriage certificate, 2 items to prove in-county address (utility bill and mortgage statement), and my wife's passport.  Took just a couple days.  - Jason

Anyone have some specific information regarding California Community Colleges? I went to the college I use to attend and asked about all available options and despite being there for an hour and discussing things I've read here I was told that she won't qualify for in state tuition and will be billed as an international/out of state student. Something along the lines if being a state law with no work arounds.
