There are millions of dogs and cats in re-homing centres throughout the USA. Many will be euthanized because no one wants them. By bringing the dog here you could be condemning it to an early death and this, after a long plane journey too, seems a little unfair to me.

That's true for some shelters, but many are moving away from that sort of system and making people reserve spots in shelters instead, and they have foster programs to alleviate overcrowding and to facilitate socialization.

It's still true for a vast majority of shelters though. Those with special programs are also usually no-kill with very limited space available so many people are turned away from those. I still prefer no-kill shelters but it's something to be aware of. Most big shelters only use foster care for injured animals or animals too young for adoption. A rescue organization is often made up entirely of a network of foster homes though.

Either way, putting a dog through that after dragging it the US is a little unfair, as Mags said, IMO.
