Visa K=1 and SSN

I need help with this issue.  I’m on K-1 visa, we got married and I-94 form ended shortly after. We are in the process of preparing documents for a Green Card, work permit and Advance Parole Document. In the meantime we decided to get SSN.

When I visited the SSN office, the clerk took my SSN form, but told me that since I have expired I-94, they need either a new I-94 form or an A-Number. It looks like I was assigned an A-number when I got K1 approval,  but it’s only a stamp on my original I-129F form. The clerk mentioned that they need only the original documents and sent me to the nearest USCIS office to get a proof that I am in good immigration status.

Has someone faced a similar situation, what exactly can I request from USCIS?

This is pretty common actually. As or right now you  will need your  EAD before you can get it

You are currently out of status and subject to deportation.........once you file the I-485, you will have no legal status, but granted "authorized stay" pending adjudication...You should file it as soon as possible...As @Cyberfx1024 stated, you will require an EAD before you can get a SSN.
